.32 rimfire question?

Andy

you should go into production and sell your casings, I would buy a few dozen!

Some people here do that kind of thing and it's good as it serves a need, but I find that for the little amount of money it might generate, it's really not worthwhile financially, and worse, it takes away from other things I could be doing. Now I'm not against profit - I try to make a few bucks every time I sell a gun to both make up for poor deals, but also to buy a few toys.

This was not my idea, I just did it myself and documented it. If one has the proper tools, the 32 RF conversion is an easy one - the 38 RF (up next), not so much.

PM me and maybe I'll make up a few.

I also make up the .32 conversion cases. I have a couple dozen currently made up to shoot with centered .22 blanks but can make them for .27 blanks as well if that's what's needed. I have lots of .32 short colt brass to work with. I have also made .38 rf cases to shoot the 27 cal blank with success. Let me know if you need any.

Thanks Andy and the rest of you gentlemen who have posted such helpful info on making up .32 rimfire cases. I've been looking for some for a long time and even bought some cases from France and they were crap. I just finished shooting [not 5 min ago] my first 2 rounds in a Stevens 44 and it works like likity split. Have 2 more rifles to try out.
My local Home Depot have the #27 green hilti caps for 14$ / hundred. I don't have a lathe so took a few 32 short colt brass to a local guy and he drilled them for me on his lathe. The spent caps are kinda tight to get out so I have an old hockey puck that I have holes drilled in for various jobs and drilling a 5/16" hole right through it makes it easy to set the case over the hole and tap the spent cap out with a pin punch and then turn the puck over and knock it out of the puck. No powder to worry about.....just take the brass, a box of .310 round balls, some 27 caps along with the puck, pin punch, small hammer and head for the range. Costs about 25 cents a round as compared to between 1 and 2 dollars a round for real 32 rimfire rounds. Now if we can just figure something out for the .25 rimfire......:)
Thanks again guys........this is what shooting is all about...............fun!
Take care, wTc

.25 rf is even easier to shoot. I know a guy who's been shooting a 25 rf for years using a .25 hilti blank and the correct size ball. No case required according to him. Haven't tried it myself though....

Thanks Tactical: I know Home Depot have 25 cal Hiltis. Where can one find a 25 cal sized round ball? I believe that SSG sized balls are about .308 diam so am wondering if one of the smaller shotgun pellets might work........triple buck or something. Anybody know the sizes offhand?
Guess theres another research session on the horizon......:)

The beauty of this setup is that the Ramset is both the primer and the powder charge, and you don't have to line up the round to align with the firing pin. The powder seems to be like Bullseye in Burn Rate (fast) and for my Remington #4 Rolling Block, "Green" contains a suitably mild charge for a 48 gr Round Ball. Brown 27 Cal charges are very difficult to find, and are required IMO if you go heavier than the 48 gr Round Ball. Firearms not as strong as the #4 would require caution using the Ramset charge - you might want to empty the powder and replace it will blackpowder, or a suitable smokeless charge.

Are you guys firing these out of revolvers as well or strictly rifles. I am new to antiques and reloading. I am wondering if a small defender 89 would be able to handle this round. From the specs I can find on the net it appears to be ok...

I'm finding that its kinda a crap shoot when it comes to firearms that will shoot these made up rounds. Some rifles [and probably revolvers also] have firing pins that are very narrow and pointy, and some that strike very close to the rim edge may not fire the Hilti cap rounds. Some rifles will and some will not.....or atleast will not fire them on a reliable basis. You just have to try them on an individual basis.

I am shooting these strictly from a pair of .32 rf revolvers. I have also made some 38 rf reloadable cases now.

I am more wondering about the safety aspect of the power of the Hilti round and if the small rimfires can handle it.

also where do you find the .310 round balls, I tried Bass Pro and Le Baron with no luck.

I got my .310 or 32 round ball ammo from a small local shop that sells black powder and muzzle loading supplies. They are made by Hornady--product #6000----and less than 10 bucks for a box of 100.
