.375 h&h on deer

My cz 375 works fine on deer.It does not drop them any faster than my 30-06 however.Meat damage has been minimal.I use the 260 grain accubond. The rifle is heavy, but I shoot heavier rifles much better offhand than lightweights. With my 375 I load it with 14 grains of unique behind a 200 grain lead bullet for practice.Fun shooting gongs at 200 meters with that load.Very cheap to shoot for practice rounds. The first time I ever shot a 375 I had to have one of my own.I mostly have it for bear and moose now and carry a 25-06 for deer, but it is by far my favourite cartridge. Not one I will ever regret buying.

I own a .375H&H and use it on everything. Have shot quite a few deer with the 270 gr. and found no more damage than with other lesser rounds. It does depend on shot placement and you don't have to follow them far if at all.

I'm planning to take mine out for whitetail next year, mostly for practice. Someday the African hunting gods will smile on me, and I don't want that to be the first time I'm out in the field with my trusty 70 Safari...

I can't think of better line of reasoning. Just getting the rifle is a step closer to Africa!:D

Shot 3 whites and 2 mules with my 602 in 375 admittedly at very close range, very quick kills. I use the 260 gr Accubond with 75 gr IMR 4350 not a lot of powder for a magnum but a sweet load for this rifle. As mentioned by others here it is heavy so lugging it up and down mountain ranges is a bit of a pain. But shooting from a stand who cares? Another consideration is the "Cool factor". Varmints have their own particular needs, for everything else there's .375 H&H.

That is one handsome man...

Anybody use the Hornady 225 grain bullets on deer? I'm thinking about working up a load, but won't bother if it comes to pieces and wastes meat...

Why not down-load it to .375 Win velocities?

I would expect a 220 grain JFP at around 1,800 fps would be a powder puff load in a .375 H&H.

That load is magic on deer and moose (in the .375 Win).

I just bought a .375 H&H Stainless Stalker and I'm going to hunt with it next fall. I like the calibre and that's why I bought it. I have two .35 Whelens and I think that calibre is probably the most perfect calibre for North Amercan hunting in any terrain because it performs exceptionally well and it's made in a rifle that doesn't weigh a ton. However, there is something magical about the .375 and I'm looking forward to using it. It is, however, quite a heavy rifle to drag around the bush all day.

Not sure of the brand but I used 220gr flat point on a mulie, it jumped straight up in the air and hit the deck dead. This round was the least accurate for my rifle, it really shines with the 300gr rn.

375 H&H on deer

I have shot 6 deer with 235 gr. Speers bullets bought in early 1980"s. I bought app.400 bullets at that time. They have worked excellent on deer less damage then my 300 Winchester with 180 grs. Bullets punch a big hole going in and out less hydraulic shock because they are going a bit slower so less bloody meat.Samething everyone else says shot placement critical if you do not hit any big bones on the way in minimal damage just nice holes in and out.
Live and hunt in Alberta so extra horsepower handy for bigger animals. I have worked up loads for 235gr fairly hot and loads for 270 gr that hit almost same spot at 200yards 235gr. 3/4 inch higher so carry both loads when in mountains.

You shoot a rabbit wiht a 308, there is a good chance that it will blow up, leaving no edible portions.

Shoot a deer wiht a 375 H&H, and you will not have too much meat damage.

It depends if you want the meat or not.

Monster? When many here would not blink at shooting a deer with a 45/70 or a sharps 50/70. Let alone a .54 flintlock!
