A bullet of .375 caliber is the answer, and has always been the answer, regardless of the question. The question of which cartridge should contain the powder charge that makes the bullet useful has become just a little bit tedious. So whether you prefer: Schoville, Chatfield-Taylor, a couple of Weatherbys, H&H, Ruger, Ultramag, Dakota, or a host of wildcats far too numerous to name, the key remains the bullet. The .375 bullet provides the big game hunter with the final word in versatility, and the cartridge which produces the highest possible velocity, is by default the most versatile, as it will do anything the lesser cartridges will, do it at lower pressure, and do some things they cannot. That being the case, perhaps the focus of the discussion should be on whose bullet: Hornady, Sierra, Trophy Bonded, Speer, Barnes, North Fork, A-Square, Matrix, Swift, GS Custom, Rhino, Woodleigh, and so on, is potentially the best and why.
