37mm Launcher

launchers

I beleive that the anser here is yes...... 37 mm is ok and to flip that 40mm is not ok.

Does that make sense to you?

Reason why is because a launcer is a launcher and alot of boats and survival kits ect ect have a 37 mm flair launcher....

40mm was designed to launch grenades and the the 37 was more benign.

SO....
37 = Yes
40 = No

37mm is smooth bore. 40mm barrel is rifled. The two are not the same.

If one was to buy 37mm in the USA would it be ok to simply drive to the border and pay GST? As far as Canada customs goes.

I'd be interested to know what the U.S has to say on these. They aren't controlled items or relevant to the BATFE. But are they considered a "gun part"?
There was also the recent issues with launchers larger than XXmm......gray as of now...

I am not interested in what the US has to say at this point. I am simply looking to figure out what Canada customs would do. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Would I simply go to the border and pay GST?

This board does not condone illegal or improper exportation of firearms, ammunition, or any related material, out of the United States and into Canada.

So therefore, we MUST be interested in what the US has to say on exportation of any material, and that includes 37mm launchers.

Any discussion of not doing things "by the book" will result in at least the post being shut down, and the person making such comments may end up with holiday from our site.

For definitive answers, consult CCRA and if needed US ATF/Customs.

Please keep that in mind when we discuss any activity here.

Thank you.

Carry on, as you were.

37 mm is not a firearm it shoots flares and anti riot rounds under 500fps I have tried every witch way to load and it still fires under 500fps unless you make DD rounds for it then its a weapon

I would say now your likely to get it seized at customs unless you get a licensed dealer to bring it into Canada for you

Not trying to disobey any laws of any country or to circumvent them. I already understand the US portion and I am only at this point interested in what happens on our side.

I am pretty sure nobody said anything about not following proper US export conditions......

What do you base this on? Facts or opinion?

Not trying to challenge your statement I am just interested in understanding.

His post is based on fact and experience.
Correct

I went as far as makeing steel 37mm castings then up`d my load. Still nothing more then 350-380 fps At a distance of 150-220 meters. The 40mm fires 450fps (137mph) And 400 meters

The 37 mm flare caliber is the specification for a civilian legal variant of the US military's 40 mm grenade system.

To avoid classification as "destructive devices" under BATFE rules, all ordnance fired from 37 mm flare launchers are typically non-weapon rounds. Such rounds include:

flares
smoke rounds
noise effect rounds

450 F/S = 307 MPH, not 137 MPH

Sorry I guess I wasnt clear. I am wondering about why it would be seized at customs?

If you are saying it isnt a firearm I cant understand it. Unless you mean they will see it and freak and then later on let me have it back....

Customs will most likely seize and destroy it. I would just keep checking around for one they seem to pop up all the time or get a licensed dealer to bring it in.
I know customs seize and destroy the fake plastic ones for airsoft so I cant see one making it in without some kind of paper work for the legal mambo jumbos Its better to keep it legal then you don’t loose it in the flaming fires where so many beautiful weapon`s have lost there souls

Customs doesn't need reasons or logic. They make it up as they go along.

How ever, a member here did successfully get his seized 37mm launcher back from customs. It took a couple months though.
