.380 hi power?

Not that I have ever heard of. The Browning designed FN 1922 was offered in .380. You may also be thinking of the Browning BDA 380. That was basically relabeled Beretta Cheetah imported and sold by Browning in the US.

Didn't they come up with a DA/SA Hi-Power? Somewhere in the 80s? Or is my mind playing tricks on me? I've never seen one or heard about it since.
I think it was FN's entry into the US pistol trials which was won by Beretta.

Yes they did. Called the Browning Hi-Power BDA, a DA/SA 9x19/9x21 caliber pistol made in Herstal, Belgium for the US XM-9 pistol trials in the early 80's (I've owned one of these like 15 years ago). A couple more versions of the BDA: one was an early Sig P220 with the heel mag release chambered in 9mm, .38 Super and .45 ACP made by Sig Sauer in Germany with the Browning markings, the other was a variation of the Beretta M84 with a different safety mechanism and chambered in .380 (9mm Kurz) but manuf. by Beretta in Italy again with the Browning markings.

Sold the pistol to a work buddy over 10 yrs ago. Yeah, should have kept it but had lots more to buy and needed some space in the safe, you know how it is...

Interesting. i knew about 3 of those but not the 9x21. Who were they made for?

As blast said, it's a modern chambering for countries that prohibit military cartridges. Basically it's a lengthened 9mm case with the bullet seated deep as to maintain the same OAL as 9x19, and therefore be able to use the same mags, action, etc, but skirt around the restriction. Many of the same countries would have semi auto carbines chambered in 300 Savage and 222 Remington instead of .308 Win and .223 Rem.

I actually have a chance to guy a Browing BDA 45 auto, early ones with the heal release, price asking is $600.00,,and it's in mint shape with one mag,,is this worth buying,i love my High Powers,i have and 1972 HP,,and a Inglis that still has cosmoline in it,so if the price is good,,i'd consider buying this 45 if they are pretty accurate,
