Some of you have seen the thread I started about my 3d printed little badger parts (here)

So I decided to try my hand at making a chassis for my Henry Arms AR-7 survival rifle.

This is the prototype phase, and there are some fitment issues, but I will make some modifications on the subsequent versions until I have a final product.

This thing is very light weight, and comfortable to hold.

Here are the pictures:

From here on in is the first version.

In this picture you can see some of the fitment issues around the trigger guard, I will be making the modifications to fix it over time.
Also I have to sand the side a bit to smooth it over and remove the "shadowing" on the lettering.

Everthing is held together with wood screws, since my printer can only do 8"x8" print size, but everything is held together quite strong.

The stock is supposed to be collapsable, but I am going to re-design it to be fixed. It is too tight of tolerances right now so it doesn't move freely.

Here is the rifle beside the little badger. I will likely redesign the stock to be skeletonized just like the little badger.

And of course why not print it with my username right into it.... after this much work I will not be selling this version.

And of course, Here is how it started:

What do you guys think? What else would be a good rifle to tinker with?

Thanks for checking it out....

That's awesome.

How "solid" does the stock feel?

It is surprisingly solid, however I have noticed a few design flaws in my plan.

I will re-do it to be skeletonized, and that should take out all of the play it does have.

Nature of the beast, this material has a bit of play.

Excellent work, where will it end? :)

It will never end... I will fix this design up a bit, and then move to another little rifle.

I just need another handy semi .22

Well done, really cool project/build.
If you don't mind me asking, how hard would it be to make it fit AR style grips, or collapsible butt stocks?
Also what software are you using to build that?

To attach to my build?

AR grips are not a big deal, actually it would be easier in a few ways.
Stocks are a bit of a challenge, as I would likely have to put in a threaded receiver for the buffer tube.
Or I could try to print a buffer tube similar to TAPCO 10/22 stocks.

The software I use is called Solidworks.

Upon re-reading your post, I think you are asking about making new AR grips and stocks themselves.

No reason you couldn't... but printed parts are not as durable as injection moulded.
So stock could be tricky, I will give it a go eventually I am sure.
Grips are theoretically no problem.

My 3D printer arrived today just as I'm leaving for vacation. Reading this is going to make me go insane knowing it's back home still sitting in a box. I can't wait to start projects like this!

It is addictive .... Pretty soon you start buying guns just to measure their dimensions.... And spend hours modelling.

I dont know what material you used but if its ABS, you can use acetone to give it a reaaly nice glossy finish.Google acetone vapr finishing and check out youtube. Ive seen finishes that looke like injction molded abs. Very smooth and not print lines.
