410. Love or hate

Well i was in my local canadian tire and they had one stevens 301 turkey 410 in stock. Obsession camo which isnt really to my liking but i handled it and liked it. Enough i walked out with it. Light weight. Feels solid for being synthetic. Has an extra full turkey choke and removable rail for optics which is channeled so you can still use the front bead. Extremely strong ejector. Trigger is crisp although slightly heavy. About the same as a regular pump gun. No take up at all just a nice clean crisp break which was surprising for such a cheap gun
I may try to make a walnut stock set for this gun. The only real negative is the finish looks cheap. Its well applied and even but its not a high polish and i suspect it will scratch easily. I mounted a red dot optic on it so ill see how it patterns shortly

I believe they are a Chinese copy of the H+R single shots......best with the new $$$$$$$$$Tungsten turkey loads.

I have one of the TPS m6 scouts in 410/410 and love it.I also have a Springfield m6 scout as well in 22/410 and both are great little bunny guns where I hunt

3" #5. 11/16oz at 33 yards. Im not complaining.
It is not an exact copy thats for sure. However it is a slim light lil package. Even with the reddot i was smashing clays on the skeet field using 1/2 oz #9s

That looks like about a "reliable" 15 yd pattern to me...lots of holes in at 33 yds with 5's.. #9's will certainly fill it out and make it a 21 yd skeet gun as you have found out. They sure are fun to shoot at skeet.

My son's old Savage 24 is over choked and is a solid 30 yard upland gun. With Bear Russian 3" slugs bean cans don't stand a chance at 50 yards.

For giggles ill fire the same load at 15 yards just to see. Ive never been able to get a pattern like that with a full choke let alone an xf with #5 shot.
Zeroing the red dot at 10 yards with #9 shot just blew 2" holes thru the target

That gives you some idea of just how precise you have to be with a tight choke up close! LOL

So i had the target sheets in my truck and i brought them in and counted the holes. The sheets are 22x22" squares.
33 yards with 11/16 oz #5 had 88 hits. The 1/2 oz charge bar in my mec single stage loader of #9 shot yielded 205 hits on the same size sheet at 33 yards.
Ill be patterning a variety of loads thru what ever chokes i buy for this stevens and compare side by side with my sxs 410 with fixed full chokes. I may even try the tss shot and steel if i can find it

Neat to see the patterns, brybenn. And those 5's might stretch out and still have a "reliable" pattern at well over 20 yards! 9s certainly are quite dense at 18 yds and probably will provide good breaks on clays out close to 30 yards. My guesses based on looking at your patterns as well as shooting a lot skeet and a bit of trap this year with multiple .410s and chokes from cyl to a very tight full....0.035" in a Fausti with screw in "Techni-chokes", primarily with 8.5 shot, 1/2 ounce reloads in a 2.5" case.
