410. Love or hate

Well i was in my local canadian tire and they had one stevens 301 turkey 410 in stock. Obsession camo which isnt really to my liking but i handled it and liked it. Enough i walked out with it. Light weight. Feels solid for being synthetic. Has an extra full turkey choke and removable rail for optics which is channeled so you can still use the front bead. Extremely strong ejector. Trigger is crisp although slightly heavy. About the same as a regular pump gun. No take up at all just a nice clean crisp break which was surprising for such a cheap gun
I may try to make a walnut stock set for this gun. The only real negative is the finish looks cheap. Its well applied and even but its not a high polish and i suspect it will scratch easily. I mounted a red dot optic on it so ill see how it patterns shortly

I have the 20" (not turkey) one and it's been great so far. Except that I had to have it replaced because the bore was not concentric to the chamber....
works very well with my brass shells

Here is a 1/2oz reload of #9 at 18 yards with the factory xf from the lil stevens

1/2 oz #7.5 at 25Y brass case mod choke

Ive got a mossberg 500 in .410 , a Beretta silver pigeon and tubes for my browning 725 skeet.

Mainly do not shoot .410 cause I absolutely hate reloading it and too cheap to buy factory!

the 500 is a pump, and im okay with it. The silver pigeon has troubles with extracting/ejecting even brand new shells, be federal, AAHS or cheddite..... so I dont shoot it often. super tight chambers.

The 725 is an dream to shoot with with the tubes. it is about 99% trouble free with he "mechanical/inertia " triggers. but again...I hate to reload it.

1/2oz #6 at 25 yards from the lil stevens

These are 20"x21" sheets. The 8s had 187 hits the 6s had 104 hits
Definitely small game worthy

I loaded a few copper plated #6 1/2oz loads to try and just for giggles a few with #2 lead. I was going to wait until my skeet choke arrived to try the 2s but im confident they can safely pass thru the xf choke as it was designed for tss shot.

I will try 40 yards with 1/2oz #6. Factory challengers and my reloaded copperplated 6s if its nice tomorow

I have a sub gauge tube set for my browning that allows me to shoot 20,28 & 410. I also have a 1970's mossberg/lakefield 500 in .410. The 410 is great for skeet shooting and hunting small upland game. You must understand what the gauge is capable of in order to use it successfully. Last year I came across a few boxes of 3 inch #6 steel that I used to try my luck on some dove. It was quite the challenge but was well worth it. I will always have the tube sets for skeet and a pump for small game and teaching youth how to shoot. I have full love for the 410.

Those last 4 sheets were 20"×20.5"
Hit count for the 1/2 oz copper plated 6s were 102 at 25 yards and 66 at 40 yards. The 1/2 #2 were 49 hits at 25 and 30 hits at 40 yards.
