44mag or .30-.30 which would you use?

Keep the weekend /recoil sensitive shooters( I wont dignify them with the title hunters) out of the bush. I've watched them do more wounding than I've ever dreamed was possible...Ya out at the range a weekend or two before the hunt with their bidismal hunk of iron hurling lead around. So they sit armed with their crap and lack of ability waiting for the shot they've been told to wait for. I'm at one with gun and load. The price I was willing to pay to aquire that ability all year long has earned me the right to take WHATEVER shot I'm compitent in taking..And I will continue to do so.....

So let me get this straight.

A "real" hunter is arrogant, derisive of others (look that one up in the dictionary BS under D for Dunce), in denial (you've got a 10 to 1 against in this thread Bubba), and armed with a big stick to make bad shots good. I see.

A "real" hunter has old ideas, is unwilling/incapable of listening to others, and essentially thinks that s**t don't stink even when he shoots 'em in the ass.

A "real" hunter takes any shot he wants regardless of percentages and thinks that as long he shouts loud enough on an internet forum that everyone will respect him (refer to denial comment). (Also refer to earlier posting on others silently despising him.)

I'm glad there aren't so many "real" hunters like this around ... maybe we should just ignore this kind of thing because it's obviously turning his (small) crank.

Sorry to hijack the thread ... if he were really confident in his position he'd take it to "Hunting!!"

Never said it was the kind of shot I waited for, promoted. Said you could do it if you knew your equipment. Where I live you try for the ideal shot but you take the shot at hand. Thats why I practice as much as I do year round with hunting loads off hand and will continue to do so.....Actually all in attendance that seen where it actually took place were impressed..Hey that reminds me. I got a call to go pick up the peperette from him....Try not to call names. Ever notice women do that when the facts are used up. Take care

Now dont be harsh. He's been here near a year. The low post count just means he's as confident at posting on his own as he is with shooting. When the number count is on one side he gets brave. Its probably best if he sits up on the porch then..Maybe behind the rocking chair, like in the shadows quietly likin his nuts like a good puppy;)

WrongWay, Chasseur Bob, et al,...

OK, kids...Basta. Genug. Enough, already! Point has been made - with considerable vitriol in some cases - that a) shooting game in the arse (unless absolutely necessary) is a Seriously Unpopular Thing and b) either the 30-30 or .44 mag will put a deer down with authority. Back to your corners of the sandbox and wait for the next question.

How about a bear defence thread to cool things down?

:p Stuart

More to the point of this thread...

My dad uses a ruger 44 mag and loves it, but I think most of the deer he has taken with it have been in close. It definately is a nice little gun to carry though. That being said he hunts with a lot of guys who carry lever action 30-30s and they still get the deer like he does. For me it would be a flip of the coin when it comes time to buy, but thats just me :D

Sounds like a man that knows enough to not get in to deep cause he wasnt there,so it looks to my moron dunce mind that he would make an exeption in a necessary situation. Smart man......As for bear defence, I'd shoot em in the pecker.

Alright - enough with the name calling for heaven's sake.

(geez - i should just set the system to automatically insert that post on any hunting thread that gets longer than 2 pages. )

Although I remain in favour for the 30-30, The local Gun & Archery shop,
(Wolfs Den Sporting Supplies) swears by the Ruger .44 carbine. They are a real seller, says the owner.

Wow, this thread really opened my eyes to a lot of things:eek:   .
Still, I will be saving up for a Ruger Deerfield in 44 mag for next season's rifle hunt, cause I just can't get used to a lever action, no offence to lever action users intended or implied:p :p

7.62mm

Information I've been relayed indicates the Deerfield 44Mag autoloader has been dropped from Ruger production, as has a number of the smaller cartridges from the No. 1 Varmint and all WSM's.

Hmmm... the .44 mag autoloader is not listed on the Ruger website. 7.62mm may have to look for a used one.

A Winchester .30-.30 or a Ruger Carbine 44mag, shoots are a under 100yds in so pretty thick brush, I am a left hand shot to, if that matters any.
Which rifle would you use, each rifle has a 1x3.5x21 Tasco World Class scope
Me, 30-30. Good as the 44 is, it still doses not measure up to the 30-30.

The 30/30 has more muzzel energy at 100 yards than the .44REM MAG at the muzzel and it just goes down from there.

Much as I like the .44 MAG the 30/30 has set the standards all other Baterdized 38-55 loadings have had to overcome.
