So I was bored today and looking through the Epps website and saw a nice Stainless guide gun for sale. Wanted one for ages so I bought it!!!:D:D

Question- what ammo should I get for say medium power and trying it out at the range? Any tips on this? Brands, grains type etc? Thanks.

Remington and Federal make good ammo for game and practice....

Good idea to get into handloading for the .45/70 if you don't already. Pretty forgiving as far as loading goes. Brass will last forever with moderate loads. I had one load with Nosler 300 gr. Partitions @ 2100 fps clocked out of my guide gun.
I'm using a 420 gr. hard cast gas checked now and getting 1750 fps clocked out of my guide gun. It's a hammer, on both ends!
Also, recommend you change the hockey puck for a Pachmayr recoil pad or one of the same ilk as it enhance your shooting pleasure considerably.
Haven't had the balls to load some 550 gr. cast bullets I got.

is the factory pad pretty crappy? How is the recoil on this gun? Would you rate it less than say 3inch magnum slug from a 12 gauge? Is the factory pad held on my two screws?

What powder and charge were you using for the 1750 with 420 grain cast?
I am also using 420 cast and trying a wide variation of powder and loads.

My mistake. Only 1730 fps clocked, sorry.
Varget-54.0gr.-Crater Lite 420 gr. Hardcast/Gas Checked/Lubed from Jae Bok Young @ I think it's competitor pistol bullets or something. They were called "hobby castings"! Too funny and piss on the ATF...:p
I don't think this load is max. But, plenty of BOOM! as I have a Kevlar stock on mine which makes it a little lighter than the wood stock I think. It's tricked out and I love it.:D

55 grs. of RL-7 or 57.5 grains of AA2015 will give you 2000fps from a 24" bl. with a hardcast 420gr LFN GC, at the same pressure levels as the .450 marlin factory ammo. Adjust downward for less recoil and more fun!

My 16 year old is built like a golf club and rattled off 20 rounds of Fed 300gr HP and wanted more so at least it's not bad with lighter bullets.Being a carbine it jumps with a pronounced muzzle flip.with 350gr they let you know they're there,haven/t tried a 405gr yet.Cast would be a lot cheaper IMO................Harold

Nice rig Yama, Mine is similar, minus the scope. Go with Hornady's if your using factory stuff. You won't be disappointed. If your hands are larger than a five year old, ditch the lever and go with something like a DRC lever, like the one on Yama's rifle. A rear aperture site and a Hi Vis or William's Firesite for the front sight and your in business.

I 've got a Brockman Ghost Ring rear/Tritium front, Burris 2.75 EER Scout scope in Leupold QD rings, Wild West base, WW drop in trigger, WW Kevlar stocks, it's a stainless done in Duracoat, Endura on the stock, WW mag follower, Pachmayr pad, I think you were right this is a DRC lever- had a WW but too bloody big- and the action has been polished out. I don't think I forgot anything...

Factory pad is adequate. Id say the recoil is similar to the 12g. And yes your pad is held on with two screws.;););)

And yes, I know what you meant;)
