.45 ACP and .45 Auto Diffrence

I always thought that .223 is the civilian name for the 5.56 nato round.... just like .308 is the name for 7.62....

P.S. I also thought that ACP meant AUTOMATIC COMBAT PISTOL...

I learned somthing today as well.... ;)

has anyone even bought the GAP? I only know of one friend in the US who's a .45 fanatic and decided to try it out. Other than him, I dont know a single other soul who even thought about buying one :confused:

Seems to me that a lot of the brass is stamped "45 LC". What would that mean if not Long Colt? And if the 45 ACP means "Auto Colt Pistol" There is a little room for misunderstanding though you would have to work at it. :p

Technically correct or not, its been going on for over 100 years now so precident probably starts to have a bit of weight. :)

Yup i had a g37. Never firede it though, i had 3 boxes of ammo, and that was all the ammo i could find for it around my place, so i sold it before firing it.
It is around the length of a .40sw round IIRC.

A La Mat?...:D...BTW, there also is a 45 Cowboy....It`s a 45 COLT, cut down to the length of a 45 acp....Of course, it will never catch on, and IIRC, only Starline makes brass for it....

Never heard of a 9mm Long (in modern use anyway), only 9x17, 9x18 (aka (9mm Makarov), and of course 9x19.

9x21 is Italian iirc

edit: Charles, you're right. I was thinking Italy because Beretta's are often advertized as being aviailable in 9x21... apparently popular in Italy due to legal constraints around owning calibres used by the military which is also noted by the wiki article. Thanks.

Well, i guess that pic shows the difference between 45acp and 45 colt, aka 45 long colt, so i don't feel so stupid, no wait i always feel stupid,
 
Did a little searching and figured awakening this thread to add some info would not be a bad thing.

My Question is... can a guy use the same cast bullets in both the 45 Colt and the 45 ACP? I have been thinking about getting a 45 LC and want to shoot the same lead as my 45 ACP.

I noticed there is a .002 difference in the spec. bullet diameter. Is that a deal breaker with cast or jacketed rounds?

Anybody have any real life experience with this?
