So - what do we think? 5 round pin on .22LR magazines too?

I wonder what will happen if you have a fixed tube magazine (Henry or Marlin 60) that would be a utter pain to pin.

I guess I'd have to bin my Remington 597 - ain't never getting the 10 rounds on that pinned at a sensible price.

Will be an interesting few weeks waiting on details.

I don't think pinning is an option anymore for any magazine. Seems these new proposed mandates is based on the premise that either the limiting is done in a way that cannot be reversed, or more likely that there is no way a magazine can ever reach more than 5 capacity, which suggests to me a magazine which has a native/default capacity of 5 rounds or less.

Would be interesting to see how this affects things like the 10/22 which by default uses that rotary box magazine, and I haven't seen any third party options since they killed the Butler Creek 25-round banana mag. Manufacturers may be churning out native 5 or less round magazines going forward. Lots of unknowns at this point but from everything I have read, traditional pinning with rivets and what you is not in line with what the new proposed parameters are trying to achieve.

But again, we all have more questions than answers at this point. It just stinks since I just recently bought a bunch of CZ457 polymer 10 round magazines ($50.00 each x 11) and 3 x Tikka T3x TAC A1 magazines for my precision rifle (at the stomach churning cost of over $200+ per mag x 3). I know they make 457 5-rounders, but the TAC A1 magazines are proprietary and unfortunately other T3x magazines that are non TAC A1 / CTR do not work.

It is weird because currently (well until earlier today) the laws surrounding bolt actions proprietary mags (that don't fit into anything else other than that specific bolt action) allows more than 5, but with these new proposed rules who knows...

Curious also for firearms like the M1 carbine. Yeah you can but 5 round mags but they are aftermarket, hard to find and generally don’t work as well as USGI ones.

There's nothing about mag limits in the new bill. There's a new offense for turning a magazine into a prohibited device, but that's all I can see.

I'm really not sure wtf the Liberals are talking about with the 5rd limit but maybe this is one of those situations where they say they're going to do something that is already the law, assuming that those who don't know better will assume they're making meaningful changes? This certainly wouldn't be the first time (eg they were big on talking about background checks like 5 years ago even though those were already a thing)

There is more than just the bill. The will be adding magazine regulations via oic. You can find that info on the Parliament website.

Fixed magazines would be a mess.

Marlin 795, Ruger 10/22, Savage 64 and A22/A17, Winchester Wildcat, etc, don't have 5 round or less magazines available, and some won't shoot without a magazine inserted.

I'm hoping they leave the rimfire rifles alone for now as it will render many, if not most, unusable. They were exempted from other magazine restrictions so there's at least a chance they'll be exempted again.

I hoping I don’t loose use of my heirloom passed down from my grandfather to my mother to me.

Browning sa22 internal tube magazine at 11 rnds.

That is incorrect. When I sold my Ruger 10/22, it went with a 5-rd rotary mag that Ruger sold in the US. I suspect many other rimfire rifles are available with similar mags for US states which limit shooters to five rounds while hunting.

You are right I just ordered a 5 shot Ruger 10/22 mag here in canada

Hi,
First off, this proposal is fully stupid. That said...

In the US, the American Rifle Company makes aftermarket mags. I've contacted them to ask if they can make 5 rounders for the Marlin 795.

I'll let everyone here know about it when I get an answer.

Cheers,
Neil

No 5 round mags for Tikka T1x 22LR or 17HMR bolt guns

A curious thought - I was just looking at various makes and brands that I have here - I think I can cut / file / weld most all from 10 round to five round. But I do not have a Tikka to know if they could be done. And the curious part - the same tooling and skill could be used to make a short one into a longer one - so what is "permanent"? - about nothing "permanent", if it can be glued or welded to ...
