500 yards with a .308? possible?

I shot this whitetail deer at 250 yards using one Winchester 150 grain Silvertip 30-30 cartridge and a front smaller bead with rear peep sights.
I guess I was a really bad person that 22nd November of 2005?

And yes, I did do alot of preseason practice, at the rifle range that summer just prior to hunting.
Yes, slightly off topic.

Shame on you pack those antlers up and ship them over to me! That gun was way underpowered and very unethical :). Shame Shame Shame

For target rifle shooters, 500 yards is "middle range'. They need a solid, well beded action and a top quality chambered barrel.

The ammo is a handload tuned to the rifle. It takes good testing procedure to determine a good load.

Here is a 10 shot 525 yard target shot by another fellow on this Forum. He was testing my ammo for me. This was about 10 years ago, or longer. Load was Winchester brass, Fed 215 primer, N140 pdr, Sierra 155 bullet (the original Palma bullet.)

Group is under 2" high. It was shot from a rail gun sitting on a concrete table, mounted behind the firing line. I asume it was shot in about 30 seconds, to minimize wind effects.
