Hello all,
My grandfather has a .577 snider. His 70th birthday is fast approaching and he has expressed interest in getting some ammo for it so he can take a deer with it this fall.

I don't have a reloading press or the space for one, is there anyone in the Lower Mainland who has the dies and a press who would let me load up a 5-10 rounds in trade for a case of your choice of brew? I can bring components if I'm told what I need.

Fire me a PM or post here please!

I'm a tad further than some others for sure, but I can help you with some plastic 24 gauge loads if no-one else will.
I'm searching for a press big enough for the Lee dies at the moment, so I can't do brass, sorry.

Shooter's Choice, in Waterloo, lists Bertram brass at $139.95 per 20. Dies and shell holder are special order things.
Ten-X, Stateside, loads ammo. Runs around the same as the brass. No idea who or if any of it is imported. Try Cabela's though.

Good that you want to load your own, selling reloads is against EE policy I believe.
I've a Lee HB 530 gr mold if you have difficulties sourcing bullets. But shipping on bullet might kill ya.

Probably won't blow up your gun ( S-E are quite robust IMO ) but I'd bet money it won't shoot worth s**t.
I'll be casting within a few days; I'll hook you up with 18-20 bullets and plastic (primed already) shells to match. It's pure lead so it will cost you 'fair market price' ( don't know what that is at the moment, lol...Tim Hortons card?).
You can use BP or a substitute if BP is unavailable, FG is best.
You'll need to fill the HB (wax, clay, bondo...)or run a wad under it to negate the chances of an air gap. Get a couple Bees-wax candles and throw it together (youtube is your friend).
Wear proper PPE and try it out, it's not Rocket science.
Just use due diligence.
And pay this favor forward to someone else, that's what I'm doing right now.

I have put just about everything thru mine.
You can go as simple as a .575 round ball hand pressed atop 50-70gr FFG in a brass case, seated firmly on the powder.
I use a set of molds and cast minnies and seat these on 70 gr FFG with cornmeal as filler and beeswax filler in the minnie base.
Lee offers a really inexpensive press which will accept the .577 dies which I think are 1-1/4" thread instead of the 7/8" thread of regular die sets.
I think I bought my Lee press and dies for around $250.
Brass can be bought pre formed or you can buy 24g and cut down and fireform yourself.
my Snider will pluck the eyes out of a snake at 100yds, no BS.

you can buy fire formed brass made from 24ga brass shot shells 25 for $45.00 just google "577 snider brass xring services"
he's in washington state but he ships to canada i bought some from him a few months ago.

Fireformed...curious, my 24 ga brass is far to big to fit in the chamber. That should be a trick I need to learn
I've heard reloading the formed brass is easily done without a reloader, making a crimper from pliers perhaps?
But, I've not a smidgen of the experience of many here. As I said earlier... dies, bullets, powder, brass & a Snider I've got; just not a press big enough to handle the dies. They are big!
But I'm definitely checking in as I can learn too.
