597 VTR - mini review + pics.

I have read several reports of the extractor being the weak link on the 597. So, I ordered a VQ replacement the day I bought the gun. I'm going to have the replacement installed before I even shoot it the first time.

Here's mine. Just brought it home. Added the rem 30rd mag and a bipod (Tall one for now).

Mine finally gave in Thursday night. I kept hoping I'd be one of the lucky ones with the 597 but not so. After about 300 rounds shot in the last month or so of me getting it she seized up and and is now in at Epps for warranty repair.
Not 100% sure what the issue is but the trigger stuck as if the safety was on and neither safety or trigger would budge. I should have it back in 2-3 weeks and hopefully then all will be cleared up and I won't have any major future issues with it.

I got mine a couple of days ago , took the f@@@er apart like the manual says had to put the rubber hose bushing back on with lots of gun oil and forced it down with a stick . I have put about 500 rounds through it so far , a couple of failure to feed (I wonder if this is the ammo , mag , etc... ) and a couple of duds (firing pin hit casing but looks light at times ) . Overall very happy , by the way I am using Walmart ammo 333 box of Winchester .

Now this rubber hose , has anybody fired without it yet as I am taking out golf balls at 50 yards and can group within 1/2" when I really try on sand bags at 50 yards . I really want to know so when I take it apart the next time I can throw it away .

I found that the ammo mine has only problems with the remington high shock go figure. If you are having problems look at this link

Was at the range today , had the rubber bushing(hose) off best group at 50 yards was
3" off of sand bags . Very inconsistent shot placement called Remington was told that it was there to dampen vibration and this could possibly affect accuracy . Was also told if any further problems I should have the gun looked at by a warranty center . The US customer gave me the Canadian phone # which by the way is not a toll free # . Looks like I will have to get the stick out again a shove that bushing on the barrel . Apparently there is a tool to do this ,but if you don't have it then you could use PVC pipe , this is direct from customer service ..................

Back to the range today , had the bshing ( hose ) on it shot alot better , best group at 50 yards off of sandbags was within .75" . No problem taking out golf balls , next time I go I will really dial her in . Who would of thought .................

could some one post pic's of were this garden hose goes. Cuz mine never came with one & I was wondering were it went. So I can see if it improves my groups.

I've picked one up and need to know if putting an adjustable stock on it changes its non restricted status? Anyone?

If the OAL remains over 26", you're okay. Barrel can be any length for rimfire, it's OAL that matters.

Swap the stock.

Wholesale Sports is $435.00. I picked mine up yesterday in Nanaimo. It looks better `live' than these pics. A short 16" barrel lined up with a bunch of centerfire longer barrel rifles.

I don't know if my question has already been posted but i was wondering if the handguard can be remove and if it possible to fit an AR standard handguard ?

Yes, I would ask the nice guy's @ Dlask for there help on doing this for me.

Ordered mine today...

I held one at WSS yesterday, and went right home to order one from my local shop.... I love how they handle and it feels very solid. I dont feel like I'm going to break it like I do when I hold a Savage....

Mine is for my 3 boys for X-mas... they are going to love it.

Gord.
