6.5 Needmoor ~ Federal +Peak

Designed to keep guys from burning out their barrels.
There ya go. Its self regulating. You can't afford to burn the barrel. Now he doesn't need to worry for anyone elses sake

At 80k PSI I am not sure more than a few hundred rounds would be necessary regardless. Who knows though, again, time will tell.

Yeah while it contributes I'm not sure pressure is all that important compared to amount of hot gas and speed vs bullet size. I mean is it really going to be worse than 25/06? Lots of powder, even smaller diameter case mouth, and rippin fast. Definitely gonna be interesting to see.

I will and now you can zip it.

LOL.

Leave him to his strange negativity about it.

I predict few to zero barrels will get burned out by using this ammunition.

Very few hunters burn out their barrels (although I've done it and I know a few hunters on here have)

And that's because most hunters don't shoot much. So the extra wear and tear on their barrels from using this ammunition as opposed to standard ammo is going to be negligible.

It's going to be harder on barrels, there is no doubt about that. But I bet it won't be as hard as some of those round counts people have mentioned. They are probably going to try use a faster burning powder, so the charge weight isn't crazy, and a low flame temp powder. Maybe? I have no idea. But that would be alot easier on the barrels if your running it up that high of pressure.

You have a point; they will buy a box and then talk about the amazing feats of shooting prowess will fill the forums. LOL

I 100% concur with Slimbo:

Who cares? Barrels are cheaper than the ammo required to burn one out (80k psi or not). Seems like the only people who whine about barrel wear are the ones who will never wear one out. The ones who will, realize they are a consumable.

100%!!

Like seriously, it takes about 1500 rounds of a 300 magnum to burn out a hunting rifle. And I know because I have a 300WSM that Bill Leeper built for me using a Ron Smith Barrel and I've shot over 2000 rounds through it. Kudos to both Leeper and Smith as the groups went from well under MOA when new to just slightly over MOA after 1900 rounds. Still 100% acceptable for a hunting rifle. We cannot forget that back in Jack O'Connors day he thought a reliable 2MOA rifle was pretty great.

Again, I predict zero users of this ammo will ever burn out a barrel
