6.5 Weatherby RPM

Ho-Hum.....yawwwnnnn!! Don't see anything here that hasn't been available since back in the 50's
I have owned a number of 264 Win Mags over the years, and particularly with modern, slow burning
powders, 3150 was easily reached in the 26" barrelled rifles. [Retumbo, Magnum, N570, etc]

I had one built with a 27", 3 groove Pac-Nor with a 1-9" twist, that would drive the 140 Partition to
3225 safely. Shot Elk, Moose, Black Bear and 2 species of deer. Ranges from 140 yards out to 475 yards.
Killed like lightning. Recoil was very tolerable. Dave.

260 slower than a Creedmoor. Riiiight. Maybe loaded to 55,000 psi vs 65,000 psi.

New PLAN today i have a Tikka T3 6.5 x 55 Swede that i was gonna get AI'ed ! BUT maybe this will work - I tried a loaded round in the Mag and its fits WELL ! Only Draw back is the rifle only has a 22.5 " barrel BUT it will be a neat conversion i think ! RJ

Where did you get the RPM ammo?

The case length is 2.570 and case capacity is 81gr H20 which is just a little more than what a 6.5WSM is and quite a bit more than a 6.5-06AI. If the brass turns out to be fairly decent stuff, this could be a pretty cool cartridge on a standard bolt face long action. Close to a 264 win mag, more than the saum ..

So i'm thinking of rechambering my Custom built HVA 6.5 -284 Norma - I have lots of barrel shank so a Easy Peezy job for a Good gunsmith like Gary Flach (GEF) RJ

I think we should build you one on a Kimber Montana 84L, a 24” #2 Benchmark barrel, make for a dandy hunting rifle.....besides I don’t think you have a Kimber in all those gun safes do you ?

The cartridge does the same a number of others as far as performance. So why would you want to pay for the Weatherby name tax?

The whole shtick is that it fits into scaled actions like the 6 lug Weatherby/84L/Barrett FC etc. This lends itself to building rifles much lighter than can be accomplished with a magnum sized case (prc/6.5gap/264win).

:agree: I don't have a Kimber and it would be the perfect action as the Tikka is a bit SHORT to get the COAL where i would like it ! :d

Need to fine a 84L at a resonable price - i KEEP looking ! ;) RJ

Now you're talkin! You got my interest now. An 84L chambered in 6.5 RPM would be bloody awesome. As long as there is enough meat in the action.

Here you go just as you said........

Rifle Built by Gary GEF Flach

Kimber Montana 84L donor, alloy trigger guard added, trigger set at 2.5lbs, Black Gunkote on all metal surfaces, 24" SS #2 contour 1-8 twist Benchmark Barrel, Yellow-Green base on the stock with multi coloured splatter, Gary lengthened the Mag box so we can load the 156 Bergers without issue, 7lbs 3.5oz scoped.

Off to the range soon, I only have some factory ammo, no dies yet !
