6.8 for grizzly

Okay,
With a bear facing you like that, where do you shoot it? You can't get a decent shot to the heart/lungs because the head is so huge. I've been told a shot between the eyes / top of the forehead will likely deflect [even from a .44 mag at close range] because the skull is so thick and sloped. I've also been told a shot to the eye isn't a great shot either because there is thick bone that curls over and behind the ocular socket, so it will likely blind the bear, but not kill it [make it real pissed, though].

So, angry bear facing you like the one in the pic, where do you aim [assuming you are able to keep ahold of yourself and actually aim]?

Shoulder.

To actually choose a 6.8 SPC for grizzly takes some brass b@lls no doubt about it!

The pictures you posted of the Inuit guy and what I believe to be a barren ground grizzly are awesome indeed. He has earned some bragging rights from his endevour.
Myself I have very little to none bear hunting experience. I would myself, at this time choose something larger than 30 calibre, purely for my own comfort. But, I'll bow to those with more knowledge and experience than me. At least you plan on using a deep penetrating premium bullet.

Just promise to post after-hunt pics okay?

Actually the 6.8 is very similar in power/energy to a 30-30 just has a faster/lighter bullet I'm thinking that over the years there have been many grizzlies that have been killed with a 30-30...

Very similar to 7.62x39 as well.

VS a Grizzly I'd be wanting the SKS bayonet for back up.

:D

Killed maybe, but STOPPED in a full out charge? Would you bet your life on it?

As much as I would bet my life on a 30-30 which is why I carry a 21" barreled 375RUM loaded with 350gr TSX @ 2450fps or a 18 1/2" barreled 1895GS 45-70 loaded with 525gr Piledrivers @ 1600fps or 550gr Craters @ 1580fps...

A shot to the shoulder of that bear mite knock him down but I'd bet hed get u before u racked the bolt. I've seen bears run run faster then a horse even with a front leg flailing around in a broken shoulder. A shot to tje upper neck above the head is risky if he lifts his hhead. Best bet to whistle c if he lifts his head then take the chest shot if u have a bullet tuff enuf to reach the vitals threw that much muscle (big heavy slow bullet go much deeper then lil fast bullet). For me the clear choice in close like that wood to rake threw n break the back hips then a quick follow upshot to the hear n lungs. But again I'd use a big bore double one tube solids the other softpoints but that's just me
