7.62 x 39 NEA AR's

Just wondering how to tell the difference between the newer and old bolts. I know mine is marked I want to think with an "e" but now I'll have to go look. Also is it the bolt or carrier or both that are marked?

Using my Google-Fu, I found this pic of what is supposedly the NEA 7.62x39.

If this is indeed so, I am impressed. Looks a lot beefier than every other x39 AR bolt (except of course the CMMG MK47, which is based of a .308 bolt).
Does anybody have there yet? I am very interested in seeing some feedback, especially at substantial round counts and ran hard. (I know, easier said than done).

There are no "old" 7.62x39 bolts. They're all new designed and built.

).

That's my picture. There's no "supposedly" about it.

They are $750.

I've ran about 500-ish rounds through mine now, all surplus: Chinese, LCW and Romanian. The Chinese doesn't group as well as eastern block.
You will need a regular-power hammer spring: my Timney wasn't strong enough (light primer strikes). The hammer spring in my Norinco lower has been fine.
Other than that it's been flawless and I would say 2.5" MOA, magnified, should be easy for anyone (with surplus). I'm pretty happy with the setup.

With a higher power scope, match ammo and a better trigger, I'd would expect under 2MOA easily, probably 1.5.

I really don't think so. The 7.5 and 10.5 inch uppers use pistol length gas tubes which apparently are pretty crumby with 7.62x39 sized rounds.

That's too bad, although 10.5 is often carbine length gas if it matters.

My impression is that carbine length gas systems on 5.56 10.5" barrels have very little dwell time, and have the ports opened up a bit to compensate for this. Given that 5.56 runs at a higher pressure than 7.62x39, why would a pistol length gas system be a bad idea? I am curious, because I actually do not know.

Most, if not all, .300 Blackout barrels seem to have pistol length gas systems on barrels even up to 16" long.

I am not sure if this would carry over to the 7.62x39.

They are probably trying out the 7.62 to see how popular it might be. If they sell a ton and the demand is there maybe they will go with a shorter barrel setup?

Well from what Ive gathered most of the companies are shifting ARs towards x39 and more will join. PWS CMMG and couple other ones including NEA definitely cheaper than .223

I am open to the idea of getting a 7.62x39, especially in a shorter barrel (anywhere between 7"-10").
I am glad to see the weak bolt issue being addressed.

I bought a pws 7.75" in x39 and I'm loving it. Recoil is definitely harder than 556 but once you go through 500 rnds of cheap surplus not worrying about your wallet is well worth it.

I asked about shorter barrels way back on the first page of this thread I think and I see now that I'm not the only one curious to know. That's good but does SFRC ever respond to questions, I'm fairly new and not being sarcastic and since they haven't responded from what I can see, I'm quite curious.

Also, what is a pws?

Another question,
Is Dave the only so far with a range report that you guys have seen?

I hope to buy one next year with my Wellness Account and as it is a "new" product, I want to be sure I'm spending my taxable benefit well.

I got one when SFRC had their 10% off sale, but have had it to the range only once.
The mag was a bit sticky, so there were some failure to feed and bolt hold-open issues.
Otherwise the gun seems to work well.
I'm hoping to get out again before Christmas with some additional mags.
