7.62mm DCRA LE No4 conversion thread

Just received DCRA #731 1943 M47, Hollow bolt handle numbers match on mag, receiver and bolt handle. Came with normal front sight and a Parker Hale P5C rear.

Did a search, but don't think I posted here before. I have #268. Will post some pics when I get back home. I bought it years ago from Ken & Marshall McLeod at Moosomin. Ken told me it had belonged to an older gentleman from around Fleming, SK. Maybe smellie or Buffdog can recall who this might have been. I've owned the rifle for at least 20-25 years.

Just to add to the mix, it is on a 1950 LB action. Isn't there a big fuss over 1950 LB's?

1943 Long Branch No 4 Mk 1* DCRA Question

I'm new to the DCRA rifles so I thought I'd ask the experts a couple of questions about one that I'm looking at. It's overall in fairly good shape but I have 2 concerns that I was hoping someone could help me out with.

1. Can anyone tell me what the tapped hole on the left side of the receiver is for? My guess is a sight of some sort but I'm not sure what type would require this hole in this location. I know that it's not for the typical Parker-Hale PH5C or A.J. Parker TZ 4/47.

2. The receiver for this rifle does not have a serial number. I'm use to finding Long Branch serial numbers on the left side of the receiver just below where this tapped hole is located. All that is on this side is what appears to be the number 25. I can't find any evidence that the serial number has been removed. It just doesn't seem to be there or anywhere else for that matter. Can anyone provide a possible explanation?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I have 84L2759 No4 MkI* Long Branch 1945 with PH 5C sight in 303 marked Forend SWM 129 Butt Marked SWM 129. Is this 303 conversion? Gun is in exc++ condition.

When you sent in a rifle to DCRA for conversion to 7.62mm they requested just the barreled action to save money on the return postage. No bedding was done or offered at the time.

The rifle is a Long Branch supplied to the U.K. during the war, then sold off after WWII by the British government. The ENGLAND stamp is often seen on these "surplussed" rifles.

The stock is Canadian maple, which some target shooters liked for its density and stability, and maybe for its weight too. You can see the stock is not original to this rifle from the numbers stamped in it near the muzzle.

So the rifle came back to Canada as a standard .303 No.4 and then later was sent to Long Branch for conversion to 7.62mm

hello
thank you for the answer

is what I can put in the DCRA official transformation?
the person who sold it to me in a gun show told me that it was a true DCRA with charger modified,
but this was not true for the charger
I wonder when the rest

believe that it is possible to trace the history and former owner?

thanking you in advance

is what I can put in the DCRA official transformation? I don't understand.
the person who sold it to me in a gun show told me that it was a true DCRA with charger modified,
but this was not true for the charger. It never was true: Sterling in the UK made a spring adapter, but it is rare and not needed on a target rifle, neither is a magazine, except as a platform for single loading.
I wonder when the rest

believe that it is possible to trace the history and former owner? Only through the person you bought it from or someone who might remember the owner because of shooting with him.

thanking you in advance

The conversion number and Maple Leaf mark should be on top of the bolt handle also.

Here are recent photo's of my 1945 Long Branch ,MP, DCRA 7.62. Had several DCRA rifles over the years, but this one is by far the nicest. Had it about 8 years now. Friend I bought it from knew the original owner who was a local RCMP SGT. apparently. Now I think of it I've never fired it. Believe stock is maple.
