7mm 08 A few Questions

Well I can finally say I got out and shot my Axis in 7mm-08 and I HATE IT.
Goddamn thing shot every thing from 130gr to 160gr far too well. I was going to upgrade to something nicer and now I don't know...
Stupid ugly good shooting guns....bleh

Now put a boyds laminate stock and timney trigger on it and you will HATE IT a whole lot more! :)

1) recoil is pretty mild compared to 30'06... 12.5ft/lbs vs 20ft/lbs

2)fine for moose if you use premium bullets....solids like Barnes, or bonded like Accubonds, 140-150gr would be good.
3)Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard

Barnes bullets require high velocity to work, so animal should be close, plus if you use Barnes for elk in 140 grain it is not enough weight to get through large bones so I recommend 160 grain Nosler Partitions, or if you can find them, get 160 grain Speer Spitzer Hot Cor bullets. For deer or sheep I would use Hornady A-Max in 162 grain.

I'd hate to ruin a $250 gun by throwing $400+ into it!
It is what it is, I'll take the lumps for owning such an eyesore...

The stock and trigger will retain their value if you should decide to sell and the axis will still be worth your 250.00...win, win

Can’t do pictures but I have a rem 700 sps, Browning x-bolt, and Weatherby s2 synthetic all in 7-08. I have killed 1 moose, 1 elk, and bunch of deer. I got them all with 140gr nosler partitions. My shoulder really complains when shooting even a 270 win. Recoil is easy on my shoulder. I would not hesitate shooting something out to 300yds. Got my moose a little further than that. It has done everything I have asked it to. Only problem is cost of ammunition. I really should reload my own.

I don't have any pics but I've been playing with a ruger American in 7-08 since the spring and its becoming my favorite. Was at the range yesterday to verify drops at 2-300m. 2" group at 300 m so I'm content with that. Still need to verify my last 2 bdc hashes before season starts but it should get me to 550yards which is farther then I plan on shooting game. I'm shooting federal trophy bonded tip 140's at 2800 fps. I love the round. So nice to watch your hits through the scope. My 7mm rm hasn't got near as much exercise since I got the 708.

I watched a huge bull elk tumble to a 140gr PowerShock at about 500m. The 7-08 is not an underdog.

I have been tempted to either build our purchase a 7-08. If I were to purchase a stock rifle, a Sako 85 Finnlight or an HS Precision PHL. For a build, either a Rem700 or Model Seven receiver, 22" standard contour barrel 1:9" twist from Gaillard, and either a McMillan Edge or an HS stock. Whatever the rifle turns out to be would be topped with a Z3 3-9 with a #4 reticle.

I bought a Browning X bolt micro midas in 7-08 for my son this spring. I finally got out with the boy to sight it in a couple weeks ago and both of us really like it because it shoots so well. I think I'll leave the 7mm mag at home this year and take the Browning out hunting.

Bought one for my 10 year old and he loves it... I took an couple shot with it and yep she's a sweet heart to shoot. Got some reloading work to do but I'm think'n this is going to be a great rifle that just about anyone can shoot and shoot well.

I’ve dropped both moose and deer with my 7/08. Love it.
Less recoil, less powder, and does everything my old 7 rem mag did

Thanks so much for the above replies fellas ! It's great that you take the time to answer my questions !
If you have anymore suggestions please post them up ! I usually like to have a research under my belt before I purchase anything .
