7mm-08 popularity

I was thinking about getting one soon as one of my next calibres. Probably because it is a short action easy shooting round with good ballistics and if you reload it has many opportunities. My next choices are 7-08, 6.5x55 and then either 45-70,9x62,375 or 458 I just haven't really found a need for any big boys yet.

7-08 just seems like a great overall round.

They seem to be very efficient compared to similar long actions - say .270 Winchester. I'm more about the big black powder chamberings than whizbangers, but when it comes to having to part with my 7mm-08... it'll be a "cold dead hands" type situation.
 
What's not to love? Great range of bullets to the hand loader. From coyotes to moose, there's a bullet in 7mm. Effcient, short action and not much recoil. I personally don't own one, but do own a .280 Rem and a 7RM. The .280 also makes a great all rounder, with just a little extra ummph for the bigger game and longer shots.
 
I have a Rem 700 BDL with a SS 22" Mountain rifle 7-08 barrel and two more barrels for future projects. I only hunt with 7-08 and 7 X 57 rifles, light recoil and excellent hitting power. One of my guns has a recoil pad and that is a Ruger No1 in 7X57 and it dosn't need it.
 
Well, i just get alot of "oh, that little pea shooter............" , and the like.BUT funny when someone misses and they say, "ya, you shouda been there with your rifle!!"lol
 
I have a Sako Hunter in 7mm -08, its a dream to carry all day long. Works well for anything that I have pointed it at ;) It just plain works, you cant go wrong.
 
It is a very nice round to shoot with mild recoil and little muzzle blast. The recoil is very similar to the 300sav at just under 15ftlbs of recoil. I have at least a couple of 308win's and a couple of 7mm-08's most of the time including similar firearms and to me there is noticably less recoil with the 7mm-08 (others will disagree I am sure but I am a bit recoil sensitive).

I notice that there is not a lot about the accuracy of the 7mm-08. From my experience, it is a very accurate cartridge, and an easy one to find a good load for.

A lot of Silhouette shooters that were using the .308 Winchester changed to the 7mm-08 because of the accuracy and lighter recoil. It also had the energy to knock down those big rams at 500 meters. And, Silhouette is a game of accuracy.

There is a very good selection of bullets available for the 7mm calibre if you reload, and the case is quite efficient in burning powder.
 
The 7 mm-08 is not at all popular in my neck of the woods. They never heard about it till I had one. A good little round in a short action and reasonable recoil. I made a big mistake selling it...
 
A young friend of mine weighs probably 100 lbs and is recoil sensitive. I think if he had a recoil pad on any 7-08 he could shoot it all day. He dos not have alot of upper body strength and he takes a beating from his 870 Express when he duck hunts. He is a great guy and is on the ball when it comes to hunting, hunting firearms, and equipment.
I had two Sako L579s in 243 and I was going to get one converted to 7-08, but my barrels were from Remingtons. So I had my Remington 700 BDL converted to 7-08.
I would love to have a Ruger No1 in 7-08, I have one in 7X57 now but I still want one in 7-08.
 
Mine is a small ring mauser with a remington 700 barrel in 7-08. uses the remington iron sights. My "pissing rain / heavy snow" rifle. Nice shooting, accurate and withthe range of good bullets available, the kind of rifle that could handle everything from coyotes to moose with no problem.

Never shot anything with it, though.
 
i stepped up to a m77 ruger 7-08 (dad had put a bell -carlson stock and heavier stainless barrel on it)when i was about ten. have been shooting it for twenty years now and it will be staying in the family for sure. those 160gr barnes triple shocks are very accurate and well as very devastating, though the only bullets that don't shoot good out of this rifle are 130 to 150 gr. size. i think its because of the heavier barrel but don't know for sure.
 
I have had a browning micro medallion in 7mm-08 for around 12 years now. It has always been an accurate rifle, shooting under 1" with low power scopes. Last game taken with it was a dall ram this fall, with barns 120 tsx. The rifle is a pleasure to carry and shoot. The only strike against the caliber for me personally is its lack of history, or nostalgia. I am shooting and carrying my 7x57 rifles more and more....
 
I just picked up a Marlin sl7 last weekend for my wife. I wanted something with a mild recoil that would be able to be used on deer and moose. I was on a budget as she doesn't get out hunting too often and didn't want to lay out too much for a rifle. We went out to the range as soon as I got back home and she loved it. The big surprise for me was how nice it shot, nice groups light recoil and a fantastic trigger. Made some of my much more expensive rifles look bad. I should have got two as I don't think she'll lend me hers :)
 
It's a total sweetheart. Light recoiling, great confidence builder, good bullet selection, cheap to shoot often, no problems using it on all sorts of big game as long as you're confident and well-practiced (as with any rifle/cartridge). It works well in any short/light rifle without beating up the shooter. I intend to introduce my son to centerfire rifles with a 7mm-08, starting loads with 140gr bullets are a great way to get someone to experience something with a bit of pop.
 
opinions on how the 7mm-08 would be in a Remington model 700 Mountain LSS ???? Im looking for a new rifle... and found this model at a store that was hard to put down. Never owned the caliber. Id love to read some on game experience stories
