7mm-08 rifle

I really do hope you would hesitate..the 708 is NOT a 250M elk cartridge...where does the 308 , 30-06 , 7 RM come into play here ...help

You punch them in the right spot and a .22LR will kill them at that distance. It's all about shot placement, and if WhelenLad has the skills and confidence to put the shot in the right spot at 250m then why shouldn't he? Not everyone needs to have some goddamn magnum to kill things.

Thank you guys, real world V internet I guess!

Good Grief! What do you really know about Elk Hunting? A 7x57 or a 7-08 will take them down at 250 meters so fast it would make your head spin!!
Just put a quality bullet in the right spot, and the deed is done.

I certainly would not [and have not] hesitated. Dead is dead.

Well the .308 and .30-06 come in to play as short and long action, respectively, .30 cal former military cartridges that have made their place in history as incredibly popular rounds for target and hunting. The 7mm Remington magnum is a dandy all around hunting cartridge as well and one of the few magnums that offers performance worth the cost of its recoil in my opinion (worth what you paid for it) that being said if I wouldn't shoot game with a 7mm-08 at 250 meters I probably wouldn't shoot with any of these either and any elk or moose if I am carrying a valid tag and all other legal (and personal ethical) requirements are met is getting a hole through the vitals.
Now would I use a 120gr 7mm-08 bullet, probably not although if it was a monometal like a tsx or gmx I may change my tune.

My first rifle was a .270 from my dad, and it's been great. However, when I looked at light recoil and good power and ballistics, I had to go with a 7mm-08 bolt action for my son.
