The 7mm. Hmm..... That lovely .284" bullet, that gives a near magical balance between weight and sectional density to be comfortable to shoot in all shoulder fired guns, and still pack a wallop at distance.
Here's my take on the three.
7mm/08. At it's finest at silouettea metalicus, but a fine balanced short action big game round, equalling the .308Winchester( my favorite) in nearly everyway, better in some, lesser in others, but the .308 is still the bench mark of this family and will not be de-throned that easy.
.280Remington. I was going to buy a Remington 700 chambered in 8mmRemington Magnum or 7mmExpress Remington in 1981. A fine rendition of the parent .30-06 case, with that flat shooting, catch up ability at distance,... with a little..... very little less punishment on the shoulder. A Remington 700 Mountain Rifle chambered for the .280Remington is like a Winchester M70 Featherweight in .270Winchester, a match made in Haven
,.....New Haven that is
. Two true classic combos.
My purchase of the Rem700 was hijacked by the local gun dealer who talked me into my first Model 70 instead. It was chambered for that rendition from Remington, a "do it all"-" all over the world", if there ever was such a beast,....the 7mmRemington Magnum. Which leads me into........
........7mmSTW.
A nice idea, some use I guess for that cavernous 8mmRemingtonMagnum case, but really, the 7mm Weatherby filled that bill already, and it's been dropping Big game with Hip-Hop
,...I mean Bang-Flop authority since the 1940's
, and in practical, everyday economical rifles and ammo combo's, if it can't be done with the BIG7(7mmRM), could it be done with the 7mmSTW, really???
I've always beem able tp push STW ballistics in my M70 anyway. 175BTSP@3000-3050, what more could I do with the STW.
Out of these three you listed, the first two are winners by a mile, with the third, a fine cartridge in it's own right, but duplicating what has already been achieved, and looking for a home with those who desire to be flamboyant over practical, which leads inevitably to obsolescence.
