7MM build to "do it all"

How do they do in 20 shot groups?
I’ve run tests like that with .308 and .223, but I won’t do it with an overbore magnum.

I did 5 shot groups at 100, 200, 250 and 300 to confirm that load, none were worse than half moa.

At distance (1000m) I am happy to stay under 1 moa. I’ve tagged a 9” gong for seven in a row out of a pickup bed with it at 1km (then I quit while I was ahead).

I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. lol. I think 3 extra pounds and a break and you’d have a different rifle. I remember a savage in 7rm my dad had when I was a kid. It busted everybody’s eye open who shot it. I specifically remember my older brothers first island black tail when he came out of the trees with 3 or 4 ring marks on his eye and dragging a little 2 point behind him.

My 6.5-284 weighs almost the same as yours(but I have a break) and it’s a pussycat. My brother shoots the wby backcountry in 280ackley and I find it bucks like a mechanical bull. His is really hard to shoot consistently. We’re both shooting similar loads, I have the 156 Berger going 2900 and he’s shooting factory 160s.

Thanks for all the replies and time you have all spent, I appreciate it! Been reading every reply. I've decided a couple of things.

Action will be a ks arms/ really like Tikka but ks it will be
Barrel will be ks arms in 7prc, not sure on profile yet? Brake will be ks arms
Trigger will most likely be a trigger tech diamond or special

As for stock, I am not sure yet. Thinking of an AG or the MDT CRBN, thinking this will end up being an all Canadian components build! Are there any oher Canadian stock builders besides MDT?

I am not a rich person by any means and may have to unload some rifles from the cabinet to support this build but it should be worth it.

Keep any eye out in the EE section for some rifles coming up for sale 😂...why is it so hard to sell rifles a guy doesn't even use!?

So this 7 PRC...... what powders are best suited for this caliber?
I am very fond of my ruger m77 mkII in 7mm rem mag and if/when I rebarrel it , what am I really gaining on the hunting end of things? I do the occasional long range shooting past 600 and out to 1000 but my long range shooting friends don't get to visit too often so it's been a while now.
I like a very accurate rifle though , so would I be gaining much by switching to a 7PRC barrel or just sticking with the trusty 7mag? Heavier loads and longer throat/bore life with the 7PRC?
It's a few questions I have after reading through this thread.

In my limited knowledge you would be gaining the ability to load/ shoot the heavies(195's etc) without compromising case capacity like you would in the rem mag unless the 7 rem mag was optimized for those bullets. For hunting I honestly don't think you would gain much over the rem mag, maybe a bit of velocity with the same grain of bullet. It shines in the longer range shooting/ hunting if you want to load the long heavy bullets. I've heard that if you have a rem mag and have everything to reload etc...just stick with it. If you are wanting to get a 7mm go with the PRC. The 7prc is supposed to be a tighter tolerance chamber, not sure if that equals better, and I don't like this term but "inherent accuracy". Barrel life I would expect to be about the same give or take a couple hundred rounds, depends a lot on powder, powder charge, barrel etc... powders look to be on the slower end of the scale. H1000, staball hd, H4831SC, 7828SC, Retumbo, N570, N568, N565, RL26, RL25. Between this thread and the research I have done it seems 7prc is the way to go for a new 7mm rifle to suit long range shooting and hunting. I'm not a long range hunter but shooter yes.

thanx or this reply.
after my initial post I googled some on this cartridge and it seems the tried and true 7mm rem mag powders are used in the 7PRC
Truth be told , I would like to do more long range shooting and have the space to do it but lack the funds to build a dedicated rifle right now.
A rebarrel of my ruger just might see me switching to this new cartridge. The idea of launching 180+gr bullets close to 3000ft per second intrigues me for sure.

Lot of 7,s to choose from, I don't see the 7 WSM mentioned?
My opinion you require two (2) rifles in this wish of yours, for hunting factory rifle and custom for competion target.
Custom, remington or tika action, custom barrel and a good solid stock. Scopes $$$.
Which way you go ENJOY the sport.
Take care.
