7mm PRC is SAAMI approved.

One review so far on the RCC brass…….

It was mentioned in the thread that Petersen plans on making 7mm PRC brass. At least a year out.

I wonder if Hornady will be making 7mm PRC brass?

Thanks for posting that link, it’s nice to see some actual R26 data as that’s what I’ll start with.

I spoke to Peterson Brass by email and their response was they are going into 7 PRC production in January so probably/hopefully see it in Feb/March

Hornady has said all brass being made will be used for loaded ammunition for the time being, no timeline given for brass only sales,

Ok rifle is chambered up in 7mm PRC, just have to pick up and mount the scope and hit the range, loaded up some 175gr Berger Elite Hunters, R26, 215M primers.......

Why isn’t it based on the full length case? Issue of VLD bullets making the oal too long for a long action? Seems unlikely but I’m wrong all the time

A cpl reasons I’m guessing, first off it wasn’t their goal to build a cartridge with 28 Nosler performance, they wanted a moderate recoil version between the 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC, this way also no chance of mixing up or firing the 7mm PRC in a 300 PRC rifle, it’s basically a modern/improved version of the 7mm Rem Mag with slightly better performance and throated to be able to shoot any bullet weight in its caliber class.
You could be right about the overall length, this way it fits in any long action.
I think it’s going to be an excellent all round hunting/long range target cartridge, mind you I like the new $hit !

Seems like the 300 PRC is taking off, if they had gone full length for the 7 there might have been a good competitor to the nosler with readily available brass and multiple companies chambering it.

Doesn’t the 7 Rem Mag have greater case capacity?

It does have a greater case capacity but since the PRC is throated for heavy for caliber bullets it doesn’t use it’s case capacity up like the 7RM does when loading heavier bullets, in the end initial testing with the same powder charge and bullet weight the PRC was producing 105 fps faster than the 7RM.

Same powder charge? I would expect it to be slower velocity in a larger case volume.
The 7mag has lots of room for powder and bullet.

Time for a dose of reality in this thread. The 7 PRC in nothing more the the 280 Rem reimagined. Both cases hold 68 grs of ball powder to the bottom of the case neck, both need a long action. The 7 Rem Mag hold 86 grs of the same powder to the bottom of the neck. Given the same operating pressure, the Rem Mag will 200 fps + faster with any given bullet weight.

Not that it will make any difference, this rifle like all the builds before it will be used to poke a few holes in a piece of paper before being sold off without so much as a CWD ditch donkey to its credit.

Where are you getting your capacity numbers?

Yeah, pretty much this. The .300 PRC case is roughly the same length as the .300 Win Mag (it's actually shorter at 2.580" vs 2.620") but with the bullets seated as intended, it's OAL is much longer, 3.700" for the PRC and 3.340" for the Win Mag. The .300 PRC won't fit in many long actions, unlike its parent .375 Ruger case. The Tikka T3X for example is pretty much limited to 3.340" cartridges. So, they made the 7mm on an "in-between" case that maximizes capacity without eating into the powder column much to get the best balance of performance and reliability out of a 3.340" action length.

Well now I am disappointed ;) I was hoping it was more like the 280 Ackley, let me know your practical results once you’ve shot yours, looking forward to it.

Envy is not a good look; some of us peons are happy to see them

Very cool thanks for sharing. 7mm is my favourite caliber and this looks like quite the boomer.
Its almost begging to be loaded with some 195gn Bergers and stretched out!
