9.3x62 anybody Like it in Canada ?

You bet,
Bought two and built two, still have one left in the safe. A cz 550 medium in a boyds nutmeg laminate prarie hunter stock running 286 partitions @ 2550 over RL 17.

The 9.3x62 is one of my favorite calibers, its behind the 8x57 mauser for me. Ted(Why Not?) helped me out with some good load data for the x62, that shoots the 285 gr PPU @ 2450fts and shoots .65-1 " groups at 100 yards. I've used the caliber this past fall for hunting and I have had good experienced with it. I have nothing but respect for the caliber and would not hesitate using it in Africa, even on the biggest game like cape buffalo and elephant even thou people will disagree with me.

I believe that the 7x57,8x57,30-06, 303 British and 9.3x62 are the greatest cartridges to be created and has shown its good effectiveness over 100Years. They are powder efficient and has recoil that can be handled easily.

Missed a few... 6.5x55, .30-30, The whole .308 Win. based family from .243 to.358 , 7.62x54R, & on an on. They are all good long as the shooter hits the mark with 'em with the right load for the critter & distance. My newest cartridge to work with is the 9.3x62's shorter brother, the 9.3x57.....and it's going to be fun.:)

Hi

I have just moved from Europe to Ontario so this forum is new to me

First of all Hello to you nice folks

I brought over my rusty 9.3x62 and I am just curious as to how popular is it in Canada ?

or 35 whelan is the flavour over here ......

Welcome to Canada, Ghubert, and welcome to CGN!

I have hunted with the 9.3X62 in several different rifles for nearly forty years, and have put many, many, tons of moose, caribou and bears in the freezer using it. At one time I had so many of them in the safe it appeared to be an obsession. Today I only have four, only one of which is rusty. ;)

You will enjoy it here.
Ted

As many other fellow members have already said.... Welcome to our country and our forum !
And also wishing you and yours the very best for 2015.
Your 9.3 should be more than adequate for filling your freezer and I'm certain that you will be very comfortable with it here, just like back at home...

Widely accepted in Africa that the only game the 9.3x62mm is not sufficient for is hunting wounded Elephants in close cover.thats very high praise .I have a Husqvarna that is very accurate with store boughts, just got my dies and I am looking towards heavy for cal. bullets 300 - 320 gr, for up coming spring bears.

Welcome to Canada Ghubert, and welcome to CGN.

I have found most all my .366 Wagner components at Ellwood Epps or Tradeex (both can be found in the banners at top of page).
Not all of what you want will be available in stock exactly when you want it, but with patience it will show up sooner or later.

Whitehorse Ted, (our Mr. .366 Wagner), and quite a few of the other seasoned hands on here are extolling the performance on both target and game they are enjoying with Marshall`s Canadian made Matrix bonded bullets. His CGN handle is marshman.

Now where do you guys get reloading supplies from ?

I have found 9.3 lapua brass @ Hirch Precision

I need to obtain either

250 A frames
232 Orynx
250 Accubonds
250 Barnes

and they have all worked without any problems

I love it here in BC: seldom do you need the extra 'legs' on a magnum cartridge for the distance. So why beat yourself up 99% of the time? Normally I run a tikka t3 stainless in 6.5x55 Swede, but when I need more "oomph" for a potential bison/ grizzly hunt... Otherwise, if I know I am in dense terrain, I know it it just knock aside the brush to do its job.

I am very interested in these matrix bullets
Never come across them before
Price is good
May I ask what would you compare it to ?
Bear claw ? Woodleigh ?
Accubond ? Partition ?
Anybody care to share their experience ?
Thanks

As I mentioned in my post earlier on, while I have purchased some as I explained, I haven't tried them yet. The best sources of info that could answer your question would be Why not? and c-fbmi.

Excellent cartridge. I had a Husqvarna 98 sporter in 9.3X62 a few years ago. Likely from the good folks at TradeX. Never took it out hunting ,but was a pleasure to shoot and load for. I killed an Elk in 2011 with a .35 Whelen that wouldm't have known the difference between it, a 9.3 or .338-06. Another plus for me is you can load 5 rounds instead of 3 for a belted magnum. Welcome to Canada.

Whynot has reinvigorated the popularity of 9.3x62 on this forum, and as a result it has been renamed the .366 Wagner out of respect for Ted's experience and insight. You have a fine hunting rifle there, but you already know that. As an aside, if you handload you'll be interested in Matrix bullets, you can order directly from his webpagel, and brass can be had from TEC Tradex in the banner at the top of the page.

Of course the 9.3X62 has been around and used for a long time, but it seems to have experienced a resurgence over the past decade in general... and certainly here on CGN over the past four or five years... for many here it is riding on the coattails of one, Ted Wagner. A fine, upstanding fellow who merits respect and friendship.... as for the .366 Wag, it has the attributes to merit its own respect.

Perhals there should be a dedicated 9.3x62 forum

Now on to serious matters , one of my wishes has been to hunt in the yukon

I have still got many connections in Europe

Would it be out of order to ask if anybody like to do a swap hunt ?

:)Bingo. I plan to have that calibre ;)re-designation engraved on the left side of the action on mine, just behind the present marking on the front ring. First engraver was a no go so I'll have to look further afield.

I am new to the 9.3 x 62, and am still shopping for one, but what is with the re naming to Wagner ? Did he re-design , modify the case? like Ackley improved cases in other calibers?
