9.3x62 anybody Like it in Canada ?

I took the plunge , now I just need to wait for the mail. Picked up this 98 in 9.3x62 from a guy that seems to know a bit about the 9.3x62.

I think It should be a shooter.
 
Ooooooo, nice. I was looking at the exact same rifle the other day.... a Buddy of mine has one in .30-06.... beautiful old rifle, hit it with some G96 gun oil on a rag, I thought buddy was gonna fall down in my yard, it looked so good. Needs some Howard's Feed and Wax for the stock... reminds me, I just bought a '42 Husky, 6.5mmx55, I haven't even seen the gun yet, just pics, and heard about it.... these old guns are sure nice, though, if in good shape, and then they can be good fix-er-uppers, or project guns.....And there's apparently not much that can stand up in front of the 9.3x62.... been hearing more and more about it lately, but then I've been sorta hanging around that bunch.....!
 
By the way, Johnn, those two rifles of yours are absolutely gorgeous.... the only problem with having those two beauties, is that you would be distracted and thinking about shooting them all the time.... or at least I would be....! I'm hoping for a 6.5x55 in Ruger #1 RSI, later this year..... but, I think those are better.....

I recently lucked out and picked up a Ruger RSI, but the one I acquired is a M77 Hawkeye, stainless and wood, in 7x57mm. A "Lipsey's" gun I'm told.





:)The plan for which, is to become my 'wet coast' Vancouver Island Deer rifle for next season.
 
Wow, Thanks for posting pics off that M77, Johnn, that rifle is also gorgeous as well.... And also chambered in a great old calibre! I have heard of these Lipsey's guns.... Apparently they will build Ruger #1's as well..... If I am not mistaken, they are the ones doing a run of 6.5x55's later in the year.....?? Anyway, don't tell anyone, I was hoping to pick one up since I missed the #1's in.303 Brit..... do you load your rounds up a bit from factory ammo, or do you stick with a more conservative load....? Would you load your ammo differently between a shorter barrel and a more standard length....? These are a few questions we were wondering about a couple of days ago, when talking about these RSI's.... Anyways, I really could not think of finer things to do than to use that rifle hunting deer on Vancouver Island...... Awesome!
 
:)Thanks, I'm pleased to have been able to get it, and it was on my second attempt to acquire the M77 RSI that I was finally able to get it.

I hadn't heard of a stainless & wood M77 RSI until I saw this one when it first went up for possible sale. It was after that when I was informed of the Lipsey's variations. I'd suggest contacting Hoytcanon for any clarification you may want as he's very knowledgeable on the subject,;)and as I understand, has a few.

Generally speaking, I'll run tests, a ladder or modified ladder series of tests, with bullets within a weight range I've decided on. The top accuracy I can get is the determining factor for the load I end up going with. Overall, I would say my reloads tend to be a little more towards the conservative side. If I decide I want more speed performance, I'll go to the next or bigger cartridge in that calibre. As example, for Antelope in AB this year, rather than take a 7x57mm, I went with a 7x67S&H.

In some cases, with a shorter barrel, I may go to/with a powder that has a faster burning rate, ;)MAY.

Wow, ok, Thank you, Johnn. I ask all these questions because I am still pretty new to it all, and it is sometimes difficult to get the proper info that I am looking for. This forum I think, has been a big step forward for me, and I am beginning to figure out those folks on here who have the experience and humility to pass on their knowledge.... I have read some of Hoytcanon's posts, and very much appreciate what he has to say.... I also ask because I have started shooting the 6.5 Swede for metallic silhouette, and I am wondering how reloading for that, and the 7mm-08 will work out.... I have done some already, but with a set formula, so that is also a big step for me..... I would like to be able to develop my own loads in new rifles, etc.....It's crazy how much a fella has to know....!But, it is all in great fun!
 
It's official I am the proud owner of a Whynot's 9.3 x 62.
Now I can't wait for my dies and bullets to arrive . It's an oldie, and shows signs of being well used and cared for , and not a hint of abuse.
