9.3X62 Loads - 285 gr PRVI - Three Different Powders

M98 Action, 1:13 twist 26" Barrel

285 gr PRVI, 3.300" OAL

Swedish Metallverken Brass - thick!

1. RL17 - 64.0 grs (full) - 2485 fps
2. H4350 - 64.0 grs (full) - 2400 fps

Reformed WCC 55 30-06 Military Brass

1. RL17 - 67.0 grs (compressed) - 2610 fps Ouch!
2. H4350 - 67.0 grs (compressed) - 2500 fps
3. Superformance - 71.0 grs (compressed) - 2500 fps

In rough order of Burn Rate - confirms again that RL17 is faster than H4350. Loads in RED are considered Max @ ~60K psi. I'll drop the charge by at least one (1) gr.

More people should try Superformance. It's available, relatively inexpensive and a good performer. People shy away because few loads are published. It's a high density Ball Powder with a Burn Rate between H4350 and H4831.

A 285 at 2600 is well into .375 H&H territory; little wonder the old African hunters claimed the terminal performance of the 9.3 and the .375 was indistinguishable.

Finally got my DUV receiver, FN bolt and small parts, ER Shaw barreled, Hogue stocked monstrosity out for a run today... much more pleasant to shoot then my half stock HVA, recoil pads are a nice touch on big bore cartridges.
The 26" long barrel was giving me just under 2500fps with 57gr Varget, Hornady brass, CCI mag primers, 285gr PRVI bullets. It also shot sub-moa, so if you were wondering if these barrels are any good, they seem to be just fine for the price. No pressure signs, and I imagine I could squeeze another 100fps out of it if necessary, but with the way it was printing, I don't think I will touch a thing...maybe an extra grain now that the brass is fireformed lol.

Nice custom rifle with impressive accuracy.

I load the 285gr PRVI bullet in my 9.3x74R Ruger No.1 which has a 22" 1:10 twist barrel and get about 2450 fps MV using H4350 (moderate pressure level, ~1.5 MOA accuracy) -
