9mm 1911, what's the advantage over a 45 ?

"...why anyone should want a 9mm 1911..." The only reason there is one at all is because Colt wanted in on the proposed change of service pistol, Stateside, in the mid 50's.
The eventual adoption of the Beretta in the early 80's was a political decision. Other NATO countries were complaining about the huge balance of trade imbalance in military equipment between them and the U.S.

For playing IDPA ESP the 1911 in 9MM has some advantages. Very low felt recoil, a very fast trigger reset (Is there a better S/A trigger out there), and nine rd mags have some advantage over 10. Fully loaded in IDPA you have 9+1. when a lot of scenarios require 2 rds per target you have the advantage of reloading from slide lock thus no having to retain your mag.

I have moved over to the Tanfoglio for ESP only because my reloads are a second faster due to the wide body mags. The Tan's S/A trigger has a fast reset.

Take Care
