9mm luger in 350 legend

Someone tell me if this is a stupid idea but I recently watched a YouTube video of a guy shooting 9mm in his 350 legend cva single shot. It looks like it would be a real hoot and also a pretty versatile truck/atv gun. It would also be a really good trainer for younger kids or anyone recoil shy. My hope would be to shoot the 350 legend accurately to 200 and possibly 9mm to 100. I already have a cva scout in 6.5 cm and am quite happy with it.

I guess one hazard would be creating a carbon ring of firing lots of 9mm but it should be fairly easily cleaned.

I would probably mount a 3 or 5x vortex prism sight.

Tell me if this is a good idea or I should move on.
I'd not bother with that stupid idea meself for obvious reasons. Best to stick with the brass that the rifle be chambered for and work up a
handload for it that suits yer needs.

Picked it up at the post office after work today. What a cute little unit. Mounted a Vortex spitfire 3x to test it out. I shot a few 9mm loads at 25 yards and factory blazer 124 shot about a 3" group while my older questionable 9mm handloads didn't do as well. Seemed to function just fine though. I wont be able to try out the 170gr hornady wt loads until I get to the actual range though.

Made it to the range today but had a bit of an issue. Yes this was after firing 9mm in this rifle but I'm sure its unrelated since I cleaned the chamber. I noticed I had to give the scout a bit of a slam to close the action on a couple rounds and I couldn't eject a live round. I was also getting about 2450fps which is a good 250fps fast according to the box.

it turns out the bullet is engaging the rifling upon closing the action causing high pressure. You can see rifling marks on the round on the right and the one on the left, the bullet was pulled out of the case by the extractor. This is hornady 170gr sp. I guess I'll have to start a waranty claim with odell engineering but I may try to seat these bullets a bit deeper first. I just don't have a set of dies yet but might be able to get away with my 9mm die backed way out. That or possibly a 30-30 die.

accuracy was ok with a 6 shot 5" group at 100m using the vortex prism scope. The 9mm blazer i was shooting made about a 12" pattern about 9-14 low at 100 m which is about the last hash mark on my optic. I was surprised it grouped that well and that i could possibly hit a pumpkin at that distance. Velocity was all over the place from 780-1080 fps with blazer brass 9mm.

Before you send your gun away, I'd check the ammo lot #'s and do a quick google. IIRC, there were guys complaining about high pressure 350 Legend factory ammo blowing primers etc but I think it was Winchester.

So I was able to use my 338rcm dies to seat the bullets another .025 deeper than factory. I did the remainder of the box and they all chambered and extracted fine. Ill do another range trip and if the pressure and speed comes down a bit, I'll do the other 2 boxes I have as well. I would go ahead and start the waranty claim but I really want to go stroll around in the northern forest looking for deer and bears with this little unit in mid October. And of course have a few 9mm rounds in the pocket for Jack rabbits and muskrats.

Interesting idea, sorry to hear that you are having some issues with that nice little gun. These things are poised to replace the old H&R/NEF singles as the perfect budget toy for admirers of single shots. I have a .44mag and a .223 and love 'em both; they put the H&R singles to shame, and frankly I much prefer shooting them to the TC Encore.

The picture in post 24, with the rifle and a handful of handgun and rifle ammo on the table, is delicious! Irresistible! I sure don't need one, but I have been toying with getting either a .360Buckhammer or .350Legend and up till now was leaning towards the Buckhammer simply because I like rimmed cartridges, especially in a single shot.

The idea of shooting 9mm in the same gun just swung the scales wildly in favour of the .350Legend. :)

Haha that was my reasoning as well! I tried a couple different brands of 350 legend with no luck, neither would easily chamber so I didn't even try firing them. The rifle is off to a cva waranty center odell engineering in Ontario and so far communications with them have been excellent. I have no doubt that they will get me taken care of. Ill update when I hear more. I just wish I had this gun for an upcoming bush trip with my dad to look for ruffed grouse and possible deer. I will be taking my scout in 6.5 creed instead. I got 2 coyotes with it on Tuesday with 2 shots so it has proven itself worthy lol.

Not that my situation involves 9mm reloads but shooting my new scout in 350 legend i had issues chambering some winchester 180gr powerpoints. Felt like the bullets were slightly too wide for the chamber and i sometimes needed to tilt them/rotate them in at certain angles. I am thinking this is an ammo issue since some went in much easier than others. Once the bullet made it in the brass slid in no problem on all of them.

Gun shot amazing and im excited to have it out in the woods soon.

For those following along; I was impatient yesterday and decided to order another cva scout in 350L from prophet river. I got it at 14:30 today which is very impressive. Thanks prophet! I took 2 shots with the hornady 170 gr at 50 yards and they were nearly touching. I then fired 3, 9mm handloads that are 115gr hollow points and they did a 3 inch group about 2" lower than the 170gr 350Legend group. Looks like this one wants to shoot and functions perfectly. I guess I'll either sell the other one when I finally get it back or see which one shoots better and sell the other one.

I just put my 3x vortex spitfire on this for now that was on the other one. I may end up putting a Burris ff 2-8×35 on this one as well since i put one on my scout 6.5cm and it suits these little rifles very well and is about the same weight as the spitfire. Looks like I may get to try out the 350 legend on deer this fall after all.

Is it just hanging up on the extractor? The extractor does stick in the way a bit and bottle neck cases feed quite a but easier.
It extracts the case properly but trying to grip thr base of the case and pull it out of the chamber is tough, i almost require pliers lol it just seems like these rounds are ever so slightly too big for the chamber.

The little CVA Scouts are a hoot of fun. I have a 350 that i bought because i wanted to try the cartridge without spending $1000 on a Ruger American. It's become my favorite woods walking rifle. I worked up some 250 grain loads with the Hornady Sub-X bullet. Those are fun to shoot. I also have a bunch of 147 grain XTP.... might actually be able to get them to expand at 350 velocities.
