A brand new type of rimfire event .... introducing ACTION 22!

Just got back cleaned up and DRIED off. What a blast. Want to say thanks to Gothmog and the whoever else made this happen. I hope the only reason for the small attendance was the rain (wimps) because this was the most fun I have had with my 10/22. I'll definatetly be there for the match in August.
Well, our first Action22 match is now behind us and I have just finished cleaning up and drying off after the event. Turnout was quite low, likely due to the wet weather but 7 of us braved the elements and had a good time of it. Pics, etc will be out shortly.
Given the fact that no one attended with any rifle other than a 10/22, this will now be the standard upon which our matches will be based, including 25 round magazines.
Scoped rifles seemed to fare well on our course of fire, which included many smaller and difficult to see targets. There were a few mag issues, and one popper failed to fall except after repeated hits. By and large, however, everything worked well and our simplified scoring system still produced enough variation to not require a playoff round.
Hopefully August will be drier!

KiwiMatt shot a great match and would have scored much higher except that he borrowed someone else's faulty magazine on the first stage ...
Overall, it was a good match although the heavy rain was a bit much at times. It is a little disappointing that so few showed up to try out what KiwiMatt and I put together, although its hard to imagine how much longer we could have spent getting soaked to the skin.
Note to self: get some better raingear!
The 'all steel' format made the stage resetting very quick and easy, despite the weather. I can only imagine a paper based match in that downpour with all the attendant issues with taping soggy targets, etc.!
In good weather this event should be exceptionally enjoyable to shoot ....
Setanta will send me some video footage soon and I'll select some stills from it. I guess we may have to wait until CGN is back up to post these.

I'll definitely make every effort to come out for the August match with my girlfriend. We have an R22 and a 10/22 now, and are getting pretty good with them, if I do say so myself
Personally I would love to get involved in a two gun match with rimfire rifles and pistols. I'd love to pit my skills with my R22 and P22 against any other combo. We don't have a holster (or extra mags, beyond the standard 2) for any of our rimfire handguns, but I think that could be addressed in short order if a two-gun match was a possibility.... which I assume it likely is not.
Maybe we could start an IPSC-style event for .22LR pistols. Again, I luvs my P22

here is my new 22lr sharpshooter target. it's a spinner made from stainles shaft and a stainles shaft with a
1.625 hole . u shoot in the hole and u rimg the fire bell.

here is the back side of ring the bell. notice i V knotched the pipe and sqeezed it into a cone to direct the bullets
to the edge of the bell where it ringes the loudest. the bell
is mounted between 2 plactic washers and is free to turn with each shot to prolong the life of the bell.

No suppressors were used in the making of that video ...
I think its just the effect of the rain on the audio pickup on the camera, or perhaps just the way the camera picks up sound per se.

(change) Lunch will be available at the Golf Course after the match. It looks as if showers are predicted and hunkering down in a warm building for something to eat sounds like a better bet than outdoors. Cost will be according to the GC menu.

I'll PM you Gothmog...this looks like a lot of fun! I'll be needing details like time and location (what's TMSA?). I've got an important family dinner Sunday evening, so hopefully the match is in the morning sometime.
