A brand new type of rimfire event .... introducing ACTION 22!

The match is in the morning, be there by 8:45 am. I try to get things wrapped up by early afternoon, but weather and attendance will play a role.

At the moment it is for Tactical Rifle, but all the Action Rifle events I am part of will be announced on the site, including Action 22. This is the last 22 event of this season, but I might be persuaded to add another, or perhaps a practice session, time permitting ....

I'd really appreciate it if all those intending to show up would post here and let me know .... its very helpful. :wave:

We'll likely add pistols next year, but probably as an extra stage more similar to 'steel challenge', therefore less movement. I will continue to lobby the board of my club to allow true action shooting with 22 pistols, however.

I'll be there too! I've already packed my rifles and a thousand rounds of ammo. Banana mags are loaded up. :D

Do you need any help with setting up? If so, what time would you like us to come and help?
 
About 100 rounds should do it, although sometimes its great fun to miss repeatedly, and then of course you'll need more ... :D

Setup is pretty well done, although there are myriad last minute duties to deal with first thing in the morning. If you wish to help in some way, show up by 8:00 am or shortly thereafter. :)

Late arrivals tend to mess things up so please try to show up by 8:45 am :wave:

Cloudy, with a little sunshine and a chance of showers.

There are 2 stages which will be shot twice each.

One stage has a time limit of 30 secs with a small amount of movement. The other stage will be limited to 40 seconds and there will be a fair amount of movement. Your score will be the total number of targets knocked over in the given time, so more is better.
 
Alright, barring getting lost on the way there, I'll shoot for 8AM to lend you a hand with any last minute details.

Ha! It rained again, although most of the shooting was done before the really heavy rain. Wouldn't you know it, but after everyone left the sun poked through the clouds. :rolleyes::D

Thanks to all participants for their help in cleanup and for helping to keep this event safe and enjoyable. Thanks in particular to KiwiMatt who worked on the stages with me on Saturday (setup and design) and who RO'd today. A big thank you also goes to Clead, who brought the prizes from Dave's Surplus and CGN member Tribunius to the shoot, and thanks to Tiwaz, who I believe helped KiwiMatt with RO duties (hope I'm right here, LMK!). :)

Seems yesterday was my day to exprience the loose scope mount phenomenon. Or at least that's my story. Thanks to Dave and Matt for setting up some more challenging stages and to the sponsors for the prizes. Maybe next time could we schedule some sun?
 
Ok, I missed this time again. I plan on taking the trophy next time. He he. Qustion to those who took part more than once. What would be an ultimate setup for this 22 action game? I understand scope must be somewhat reddot -ish? How handicapped will I be with 10 round mag? Is it worth practicing re-load like in IPSC? And hey, where are pictures? Thanx beforehand...

It was my first time and I've only been shooting since January '07, so take what I say with a grain of salt. ;)

It think that even if you buy only one high-cap magazine, that you would really score much better...if that's what you want to do. If the two courses remain similar for future matches, you really need only one high-cap magazine, as even the person who burned through one 25-round magazine didn't have much time left after swapping magazine to squeeze off many rounds. Accuracy is the key.

I was using a 3-9x32mm Leapers scope (yeah I know they are cheap, but I shoot well with them and they only cost me $59 :)), but I only set it to the lowest power as we were shooting very short distances. Advantage of a regular scope...no goofy electronics/batteries that can act up on you on shooting day to throw off your match. Advantage of Red Dot sights...easier to shoot rapidly with both eyes open, and more than effective in short distances like these. I'm in the process of acquiring another 10/22 (with the 16" barrel) to build into a smaller rig with a red dot.

Some of the guys were really helpful and willing to lend people things like high-cap magazines. I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and will be back for sure. Cheers!
 
I much prefer the EoTech for centerfire action shooting, but scopes seem fine for this game, especially low power variable scopes. I suspect that because of the low recoil, there is little need to constantly adjust the rifle back to target level.

Mag changes are worth being familiar with but so far are hardly critical. Much more useful is a dead reliable shooting system, including good magazines. Our target count per stage continues to be under 20, although this could change, and we can run longer stages too (up to 100 yards). Then the scopes will really become useful ...

Definitely stay away from cheap optics that depend on electronics. Otherwise you'll find out why ...
