I wonder how much the Horus reticle adds to the price tag.
Around $400 USD I believe.
The glass is excellent. It still feels a bit large for an AR-15, but it seems perfect for a .308... as it was designed for.

Leupold CQBSS 1.1-8x
Not surprised. I just wonder, based on final pricing, how much that $400 will put it above/below their competition....
Have you actually handled or tested on of these ?
I'm eyeing the Vortex Optics Strikefire (or Sparc) for mine, but I haven't ordered yet. Has anyone has any experience with the Strikefire? (I think the Sparc is probably too new for reviews)
Good luck. Most people will tell you to buy a Larue or ADM cantilever mount, they are very nice but quite pricey. Cheaper options are the Armalite 1 piece mount or the newer Burris PEPRhttp://www.burrisoptics.com/arpepr.html. It retails for around $70 in the US and has received some excellent reviews as an alternative to those who don't need the quick attach of the more expensive options.
If you want a magnified optic a decent choice is the IOR 1.1-4
The CCQ recticle is nice ( its also illuminated )

Here it is mounted on an AR to give you an idea of the size

Pretty well all magnified optics will require a mount that cantilevers the scope forward for the proper eye relief. Also the proper ring height is at least 1.4 to 1.5". A unitized mount such as the ADM , Larue, Armalite etc is the way to go
How much would this IOR go for roughly??
Got mine for around 975$ + tx and shipping from Peter Dobson of Hirsch Precision (CGN dealer, located in NS) a couple years ago... but he now sells NightForce.
To be honest, for that price, I would go with the Trijicon TR line. I bought my TR24G for $850 from P&D!
Here's a pic of my setup for Service Rifle and Service CQB:

Nothing fancy, just a pair of Millett Angle Loc 30mm rings in MED height directly on the flat top. Your mileage may vary. This works for my competition and instructing purposes.
Oddly enough, the Falcon Merlin is the ONLY scope that I have had on my competition gun for over a year and a half. In the past an optic would never last longer than say 6 months on my rifle before being installed, zeroed, competed with and then sold only to repeat the process. That's why I can say some optics CAN work and some optics DO work for the Service Rifle's Classic Matches 1-12 or 1-16(as NSCC DCRA does it today).
Use what works for you and your game!
Cheers,
Barney
