I like the Leupold I have on my target rifle, but for an economical scope I will got to Bushnell Elites. After having my scope get drenched in a rain storm and still be able to see through it with no problems at all (no fog, smear, or spots) I gained a new appreciation for the Rainguard. If I was building rifle and was putting a scope I would NEED to trust, I would put a Leupold on it.

Leupold

I love the Leupold scopes. Top quality, made in North America(USA), great customer service/warranty in Canada from Korth Agencies in Okotoks, Alberta-which I the province I live in. I have Leupold scopes on all my rifles. Never a problem from hunting in -40 to +30 degree C. Never lost scope settings from being in a gun case mounted to the quads.
If you think Leupold is expensive, I would suggest Burris or Bushnell Elite 3200/4200 scopes. My last 3 new Leupold scopes , all VX3 have been purchased off Ebay from 2 sellers in the USA for a savings of $500-800 per scope with shipping and GST than buying from Wholesale Sports. THe other scope was in Canada and I saved 350.

Scopes are or have been mounted on my 300WM, 270WSM, 22-250, 338WM.
LEUPOLD ALL THE WAY FOR ME!!

Right now I have a Bushnell 3200 10x40, an Elcan, and six leupolds so I guess I'd have to vote Leupold.

BTW... I've busted most of the tascos and bushnells that I've owned over the years... the 3200 mildot is the only one that seems to be any good.

The best my budget can do these days is a mid priced Leupold, and they seem like good buys to me. Euro glass would be nice, but I have trouble justifying the cost.

I currently own two Zeiss conquests and they are my favourites. I paid less than what Leupold VX111's cost and I think they are significantly brighter and clearer, the constant eye releif is really cool. I also own or have owned Nikon Monarch (very nice), Leupold Varix111 and VX11, nice but I think overrated, they both tend to flare easily on bright days and while the eye relief is excellent, it varies alot and the FOV is small, the Elite 3200 are good servicable scopes, tough and reliable. The Burris FF11 is OK, fuzzzy around the edges compared to Zeiss or Nikon, but much cheaper as well, don't like the eurpoean eye peice where the whole thing moves with magnification changes. Those are the main ones I have used, have also bought the usual smattering of cheap Bushnell and a very cheap peice of junk from BSA, then won another in a shoot.

Some of the posts in this thread remind me of the time my great grandfather noticed a coyote out in the field. He grabbed his .38/40, levered in a cartridge and fired off hand out the door and after what seemed like a long time the yote fell.
He saddled up his horse to get the yote but didn't get back for a couple of hours. The reason was there was a mirage on that day and the yote was in the next county. :p

Can't really comment fairly, only ever owned Leupold's and Bushnell's both have served me well, but there is a reason a Zeiss or Swarv... costs what they do I am sure, never used em though.

This poll is still very vague. Is this scope for competion? Longe range hunting? Military use? Big game hunting??
An Elite 3200 would be a great big game scope but terrible for Long range hunting where a Nightforce is not a great big game scope but great for Longe range and military use.
Whats better a Ford or a Chev???

Cheers!!

Cool, you can vote for more than one. I voted for Leupold and Burris. I've got a couple of each and they're both top notch. Leupold edges Burris out for top marks because of their unsurpassed warranty work (with the exception of the Mark4 scopes). Burris are, IMHO, as rugged as the Leupold but they're a tad heavier. I have a 3-9x Signature and a 3-9x Fullfield II for Burris' and a 6.5-20x40 EFR and 1.5-5x for Leupold. I also have a Nightforce 3.5-15x56 on my .308, but it's a tactical (there's that word again) rifle and I likely won't be humping it around for hunting. Great scope, but heavy.

Well, we *are* in the Hunting Arms section...;)

I'd take my 3 - 9 Redfield accutrac over anything on the market..Had 'er since '82 and it's never failed me yet...Had many offers in the hunting camp..
Mine ..all mine forever.

I guess it also depends upon the application. Bushnell make some good stuff for the price. The Bushnell Banner .22 on my 10/22 does the trick for me. I also just put an Elite 3200 3-9 X 40 on my Tikka (M695) 300 WM.

edit: Wow, I just "voted" and I'm surprised by the few votes for Weaver.

I have started trading up to the VXIII series Leupolds... I always thought I had good quality scopes until I had a chance to compare them side by side. I have also compared the new VXIII's and the the LPS series to other high end scopes like Zeiss and Swarovski.
I was surprised to find how the Leupolds compared to the best European scopes... I found the VXIII's at least as good in most categories and the LPS series was better IMHO!
Also the new Alumina Options have given Leupold owners the option of Rain/Gaurd lens covers and intensifier filters among others.... check it out...
