A proper RIFLE SCOPE POLL

What is your preferred rifle scope... Why?

I'm slowly switching over to all Leupold.

Bushnell customer service is WAY too slow since they took over Tasco. I sent in a scope to Bushnell in May and had to bug them to get it back for late Oct

Also, I don't understand the reasoning for Bushnell to buy out B&L, which had a very good name in scopes, and turf the brand name altogether  Bushnell changes it's line around too much.

edit: Wow, I just "voted" and I'm surprised by the few votes for Weaver.
The problem with the new Weavers in Canada is the lack of customer service on this side of the border.

I've used the new one and liked them alot, they were priced well.

I voted for Bushnell. The scopes I have were affordable and the clarity and the toughness are perfect for my applications. I would gladly spend a couple of grand on a rifle, but I really have a hard time spending that much on a scope. My little bro, Huntsman, put a tasco varminter on his .17 and it is s damn fine scope for shoosting long range buck gophers.

I have a buddy that has a ziess pair of binos, and the clarity is amazing, I guess I'm too chincey to put a top dollar scope on.

My TC Encore has a bushnell 1.5-4 circle recticle and it has served quite well.

Bushnell Elites, great scopes for the price. I would buy Leupold's also but only to save weight or get better eye relief, I think the Elites are just as good optically.

Leupold ... known quality, never any problems, but if so, their Customer Service reputation for repair/replacement and turn-around time is top-drawer.

"You gets what you pay for !" Actually prefer the VX-II ... nice, clean, uncluttered lines - minimal bulk ( and narrowere, gaudy gold ring which I could
nicely live without.)

Now, for me, if I was willing to pay a couple grand for a rifle I'd be cheaping out if I only spent a couple hundred (or less) on a scope... :D
On the other hand I couldn't justify putting a $1000.00 scope on an Enfield... :p

I have had a couple of new Leupolds go south on me,a Vari-Xiii and a VX-3,the Bushnell 4200 is doing fine. However with my two twenty year old top-of-the-line scopes,a Scopechief and a Vari-x iii,the Leupold is very trustworthy and clearer.

Value is a relative thing... I have a 2-7 Leupold Rifleman on a very expensive .338 Custom rifle... the scope is very clear and more than satisfies the requirments for hunting with this rifle. But it is bugging the hell out of me to have a 300 dollar scope on a custom rifle:rolleyes: . I did have an Elite 4200 1.5-6 on it before... but it did not have the neccesary eye relief or bolt clearance.
I cannot decide whether to buy a 1.75-6X32 VXIII or a 2.5-8X36VXIII...
I am wanna hunt bears in the mountains with this rifle.:)

I just got another 3x9 Leupold (used) in the mail from a fellow on 24Hr Campfire. Good deal @ about $250 landed. That's the way to get them!

Anyone have need for a B&L 3000 in 4x12AO? :D

The 2.5x8 will be a bit more versatile, esp in a mountain setting. Both are very nice scopes.

I have an older B&L Balvar 1.5x6 that would stand beside a VariXIII, no problem. They are great scopes and don't usually cost an arm and a leg used.

Bushnell Elites and Trophys....if Leupold made a scope that could handle a springer magnum air-rifle and not self-destruct, I'd consider switching. But Leupold doesn't (or at least didnt) and I like single-vendor solutions.

The Bushnell Elite 4200's offer the best optics value on the market today. The Nikons have superb glass and some very nice features. Both offer better value to me than any other brand.

My experience with Bushnell service in Canada has been superb. No issues with Nikon yet so can't say on getting to and from the US.

IOR for toughness and Bushnell for value.
Zeiss would come in with the Conquest series.

I'd like to vote on Shmidt&Bender , Swaro, Docter O etc, but I've never used them.
Redd, maybe we could all limit to what we actually use and not be biased by magazine reviews. Leupold meets my mark for only one reason : light weight added to those decent optics.

I don't think this poll is a true reflection of market-share in the industry...
I know from experience that Bushnell outsells all others combined in Canada...

What exactly are you suggesting eltorro?
That people are voting for optics they know nothing about... or that people are misleading in their votes and posts???
I certainly trust the majority here to give informed and unbiased opinions... I would not give an opinion on something that I have not used, examined or compared.

I'm using Tascos for one simple reason.
I really can't afford anything more expensive....at least for the moment.
I've heard plenty of bad things said but I've never had problems and they also have an ASTOUNDING waranty system, even here in Oz.
Until I can afford a Lynx or a Zeiss my Tascos will do fine.

Even though I consider CGN a rather elite group of firearms optics users, my point is exactly the one stated by you: look how many ppl. voted for Swaro/Zeiss compared to others.
I remember many praising Weavers and Nikons in a lot of threads.
Never meant it to be offending to you or your poll, BR.
Cheers,
Eltorro

Not offended... just unclear... eltorro;)
I did ask for "preferred" rifle scopes in the poll... not what was currently being used or what we could afford.
Your implication of the members being biased by magazine articles suggested "to me" that we were uninformed and voting sensationally...
I am not an expert... but I am fortunate in my work to see and use many of the new products. And you are right to be skeptical of the advertising claims of the optics Manufacturers.
My biggest beef with the scope makers right now is the fact that most of the "affordable" scopes are assembled "off-shore"
The manufacturing costs are so low that they can offer a lifetime warranty. Which sounds good on paper but is useless if your scope lets you down when you need it:eek:
I prefer to spend my money on North American or European Scopes that have good Quality Control and proven reliability:)
