A Real Hunter Slams Black Rifles

He is done for I cannot see OutDoor Life keeping him after that Sh*t Storm he raised ,his apology is hollow and IMO he meant what said. It is reflection of most gun owners think of us that have Semi Auto "Black Guns"

I always get a kick out of publications throwing up the "Disclaimer
In the spirit of free speech, our bloggers are free to voice their personal opinions. These opinions do not necessarily represent those of Outdoor Life or its staff."

At some point they have to realize that no matter what they say the opinions ARE most definitely going to be reflected upon the publication that prints them, to think otherwise is foolish. And there is also a point at which they have to put a wee bit of thought into what they print under this guise. It isn't like this is just joe-wankers homepage blog. When a national publication prints the ramblings of any fool they have to be prepared to stand behind allowing this person to use their publication as a pulpit and in that the editor needs to take responsibility.

Alas, this guy is finished, unless of course the anti's hire him as a spokesman.

Who was that guy who writes for Field & Stream who said something similar? Can't remember, I cancelled my subscription afterwards.

The problem with these guys IMO basically is that they are over the hill, and guns have to look a certain way to them.

The reality is that there isn't some group of hunters who own a certain type of gun and a group of other shooters who own other types of gun.

It's just that technology has moved forward and they haven't kept up, notice his comments about prarie dog shooters.

If you go to the library and dig out old copies of American Rifleman there was the same sort of nonsense when lever-actions were replaced by bolt-action rifles for hunting. "It's not fair to the game, it's unmanly", you'd occasionally get some dip#### saying that sort of thing.

The problem is that it generates this myopic view of what a hunter is and what they should use. I went into a Canadian Tire store and it's full of crap that is simply outdated, and you'd rarely buy it new because there's so much used gear about that is in good condition.

That's why Wal-Mart etc. are losing market share on guns because they don't want to be seen as politically incorrect by selling: "assault weapons", but the reality is that they're just modern guns that younger shooters are more likely to be interested in.

Even if you insist on not using a semi-auto, a black synthetic stock on a bolt-action rifle with all the other bits like a cartridge holder makes the gun look very similar to an AR-15.

The AR-15 has to be the most common rifle used today for target shooting with centrefire rifle ammunition. Look at all the places that have banned it and it just comes back as something else. In California they have single-shot and pump-action versions, in the UK they have bolt-action and lever-action versions. People wouldn't go to that much effort just to have a "military" gun, they do it because they're accurate, good trigger, easy to mount optics on, etc.

Looks like he will have a lot more time to hunt, although I suspect he will have to pump gas to pay for it.

...and to buy his own ammo too.
