the classic is 2.8gr +/- .2 gr of bullseye for a 148gr HBWC, it's the only load i use for those bullets.

I may have found the holy grail. 4 grains of HP-38, campro 148 gr HBWC seated flush in .38 special case, heavy crimp. 30 shots within 2.5 inches group size at 10 yards. Shoting off hand.
Out of curiosity have you tried bullseye?
When I shot PPC, I loaded a HBWC with 2.8gr Bullseye, seated flush with a slight roll crimp, in a 38 Special case. I could hit the X ring and 10 ring, on a B27 target at 50 yds, IF I did my part.
