ACR Media and Info Thread

Don't be scared it was WAY too easy! Took ten minutes including removal and installation. Used 80grit and 400grit and I used the top of my tube tv as a surface for the paper lol. I was scared but not anymore, just go slowly and keep looking at how much it's taking off.

T V T u b e ??? What's that? ;)

I was going to do the same thing but use a my reloading bench instead of the TV.

why? I've seen a video before explaining how the empty flat space just above the bolt release is where your finger should rest when it's out of the trigger guard... if you do that, the safety is no bother at all. I'll try finding that video.

edit; found it

can anyone tell me how long the top rail on the acr is? get mine next week so i dont have one to measure it. thanks

I'll have to try to remember to measure it tomorrow afternoon if I have time. Do you have something specific you plan to put on that may not fit on there?

Not worried about it not fitting. Just trying to get some dimensions so I can get a perspective of what length scopes would look like on top and how long they are compared to the gun

Yea Gravel...... I have really rare rifle parts like an ACR butt stock and other really rare and unusual items (sarcasm) on back order since January. Good luck with them.

Damn long waits. Well nothing is broken so I don't need anything yet. But I wouldn't mind having a spare bolt and carrier laying around. Maybe a gas piston too. Are there any part that wear out rather quick? I'll probably put at least a case or two through it a month and I don't want to be stuck waiting for parts if something happens

So I finally got my Herron arms rebarreled acr in the mail. It has a 1/8 twist bartlien barrel with 223 wylde chamber and Gieselle hi speed dmr trigger. I bought a vortex viper Pst 4-16x50 ffp for hunting and target shooting, mounted with a larue lt104 qd mount.

Went to the range to zero it in today and shoot it for the first time. I mounted the scope and leveled the reticle and took my first shot with pmc 62gr green tips. I was amazed when the first shot landed dead center at 100 yards without adjusting the scope at all. Shot 4 more and confirmed it was zeroed in perfectly at 100. Shot 250 rounds without any malfunctions. And 5 shot groups ranging from the smallest group of just under half an inch up to the biggest at about an inch. Only shot 4 targets for group then removed the scope and played around at close range with the irons.

Shot from a bench with the forend supported on a sand bag and supporting the rear with my left hand. One thing I noticed is the gun seems to recoil side to side but has almost no muzzle jump. Anyone else experience this? Overall impression of the acr is great. Things I don't like: the handguard has some play in it. The battery compartment in the pistol grip fell out somewhere and I lost it. The magpul buis seem kind of bulky and obstruct a lot of view but I was able to shoot them with decent accuracy. The bolt release is pretty stiff with a mag inserted but I guess it might wear in with use. P mags drop free but xcr pistol mags need a slight tug. I must say the trigger is the very best I have ever felt. Nice smooth first stage and a second stage that breaks like glass.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Hope this is not a silly question.

If I want to shoot the bulk crate ammo by CanadaAmmo - Non Corrosive Reloadable 223 Rem 5.56 55 Grain FMJ ammo, what barrel twist is preferable?

Thanks

1:7 or 1:8. You'll beable to shoot everything from 35gr-77gr. Remember. Faster twist rates to stabilize heavier bullets. But you can't over spin lighter bullets
