ACR Media and Info Thread

Just got my non restricted barrel :D
Anyone in the Edmonton area know who I can take it to for verification to have it reclassified to non restricted?
If not I'll call the Alberta CFO and find out Monday.

Thanks

Used barrel from Herron, free loaner till we get some built.
Light contour, 18.5 inch.
I'm pretty excited to get out and try it. Hopefully the weather is decent Monday or Tuesday.

Whats the deal with the gas system? Can you just slap another barrel in there?

It uses a modified AR barrel but you need to strip the gas system from the old barrel or buy all new parts.
An AR barrel needs to be machined to fit the op rod guide and for the gas block pins.

Once you have an 18.5 inch or longer you can have it reclassified as non restricted but once done you can't legally re-install the short barrel again as you would have a non registered restricted firearm. So stripping your old barrel isn't really a bad thing. Dlask has barrels ready for your gas system for $500 which is the cheapest option available currently.

Installing the dlask barrel is a DIY job? Does the process destroy the old barrel or something?

You can go back to the short one provided you alert the CFO.

when I contacted dlask about their barrel they stated they will install and reclassify for the advertised price, no the old barrel is not destroyed by the process.

You can do it yourself. There are two pins to push out with a punch to remove the gas block and then you just need to remove the op-rod guide and install it on the new barrel.
There are many places that can do the verification to have it re-classified. Your local CFO should be able to provide you with a list of the ones close to you.

Yes you can switch back to the short barrel but you have to re-register it with the CFO to do it legally. It's more than just a phone call and then another call when you swap back to the NR length.

I was really hoping they wouldn't care if I put my 12 inch back on when I was at the range but it is illegal and to me it isn't worth the risk since if people start getting caught doing it regularly then it may draw negative attention from the CFC and RCMP and they may push to have it made restricted only regardless of barrel length. It only takes a few to ruin it for the rest.
I phoned the RCMP firearms lab and spoke to them directly about it and that's what I was told. I think I'll have to send another email as I still haven't gotten a reply so I can have it in writing.

For people who go out shooting in the bush but also participate in matches or do action shooting/training, its worth being able to go between the barrels. If its not TOO much of a hassle (1 or 2 phone calls and a week or two waiting) then it doesn't sound like a bad deal!

Anyone got a pic of the Dlask barrel? Couldn't find it on their site before..

The 18.5 barrel acr is plenty handy in action shooting so no need for the short barrel being switched back and forth.

As you can see, the barrel is stainless... Just gunkoted the parts that were showing. ;)

Is the flash hider built into the barrel?
