ACR or XCR?

LOL I was waiting on the loctite comments to start pouring in. In my opinion as an unbiased owner of neither rifle there are advantages and disadvantages to both. The ACR is WAY overpriced(even more so than the XCR). The XCR has alot more options currently(in canada particularly) such as calibre change kits, AR stock adapter, etc. IN terms or track record, yes the XCR has had problems but there has been time to deal with them and by all accounts newer XCRs run perfectly while the ACR may still have issues to arise(in adition to the few regarding NR barrels). The ACR by most accounts though is a great rifle as most of the CGNers who own them are telling you. Anyway just my opinions I guess.

Loctite (imagined or real) issues aside, the ACR is way underpriced compared to the XCR. The calibre advantage is only temporary, as 6.8SPC kits will apparently be available next year. And the XCR has nothing on the quick-change barrel option that the ACR sports.

I wouldn't exactly say the XCR runs "perfectly", either. Better, perhaps than it did initially - but it's still not as reliable as the ACR.

Speaking only for myself, I also find that my ACR with the Questar NR barrel consistently groups tighter than my Swiss CG 1/7 twist.

Whats an ACR in a NR status selling for here in Canada? Double that??

Cheers!!

Mine came restricted with standard stock and tri-rail handguards. Added folding stock, swapped and coated questar barrel.

After mods it came to ~ $3850+taxes

The ACR shoots like a dream though, my CX4 and Norinco AR collecting dust in the vault since.

I got mine at the initial Questar offer with the fixed stock and regular handgarde NR barrel for 2999.00. I think that was an initial offer only though.

Changing the barrel fast does not matter, even with a new barrel...you now have to sight it in again. You can change the upper on the XCR faster and you can have an optic and iron already on it and sighted in, plusyou have 3 caliber opitons with the XCR-L which is more then the ACR has.

Both are cool/fun guns but I still think the ACR is not as good as the XCR, all problems have been resolved in my mind and when the .308Win version comes out it will be nicer to have a "black rifle" in a larger cal.

Well, if we're comparing apples to apples - the only two calibers that really seem to matter are 5.56mm and 6.8SPC - the latter of which will be available on the ACR next year. Since those of us who own an ACR really only have one barrel at this point, it's hard to say how much we'll have to re-zero; it could be negligible or even nothing. In terms of convenience, swapping out a barrel/bolt is preferable to a complete upper - and substantially less in cost.

I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that we might see that offering again, depending on availability next year.

Maybe I should just import one.

Assuming you could find one in the US for around $2,300, you're easily looking at $500-$600 in import costs - which would put you around the $3k mark plus taxes and customs. And that's for the restricted version. Honestly, the $3k NR package from Questar is very attractive all things considered.

I was listing all 3 calibers as IMO 3 options is better then 2...so the XCR wins in that matter...more options never hurt :p

A complete upper is more ex#####ve but you do not have to do it that way if you don't want to, simply change them out at home instead of on the fly so to speak. Again you have options here...always nice.

You can get at XCR and a extra complete upper in a another caliber for the price of getting the unrestricted ACR. :)

Well, if 7.62x39mm is really that important to you... I think it's a bit of an stretch to suggest that an XCR with separate upper can be acquired for less than a NR ACR @ $2,999, though...

AR is a great platform but alas restricted so out of the question. Besides there are many AR's of various quality, and a good one properly set up can cost upwards of 2k, unless I'm mistaken, so dollars to doughnuts the money is the same for all. But I'm looking for non res, so AR is out.
