Well with this video series published the topic will never be debated again right? ;) :p cou:

This was a fun series of videos to do. Both of these rifles have modern features that make them both very appealing. It would be a series we'd enjoy to do again with two bone stock rifles, especially if a factory NR ACR ever makes it to market.

Part 1 is the intro to the rifles showing controls and basic field stripping.


Part 2 is the range testing. Trigger control was crap for the ACR and it still printed that group, trigger control was improved for the XCR (although you can't see it you can hear the audible controlled click of the trigger reset).

I'm kind of lazy and only watched the last video, so could you tell us how you made the ACR fail because of weather/environment as you claim. I have hunted and shot mine outside of the bench in desert to northern canadian winter conditions without such a failure.

couple of points I would add, ACR parts are all available for order through Gravel Agency unlike the claim in the video of nothing being available, No mention of the quick change barrel system on the ACR, No mention of the growing aftermarket for the ACR which is seeing custom bolts being made available and caliber conversions in 450 Bushmaster, 50 Beowulf and 30 AR just to name a few unavailable in the XCR platform.

I commend you for stating you have been able to make the newest version of the XCR fail many times but could you elaborate how/why? I have had an XCR fail many times on myself but it was an older version, and even with the great support Wolverine gives these rifles in Canada, It was sold because the issues persisted after repairs and swapping parts multiple times.
 
Very well made videos! I love the ergonomics of the XCR's.... but hate their reputation for poor accuracy :/ the XCR/ACR fence is a tough one to get down from.
 
If you're going to make a point of the rifle not striking the target where you were aiming why not print a couple groups before you start rolling camera and zero the scope to the ammo being used? Poor scope zero has nothing to do with the rifles.
Shooting groups through branches then calling it a rifle test was also pretty weak, why not just move your target and do it right?
Commenting that you didn't bring enough targets to do the test properly? Yet another fail.

The ACR or XCR are light years ahead of a mini-14. After owning a mini and selling it I wouldn't waste my money on one of those again, even at $500 you'd have a hard time convincing me it was worth my money. More expensive and harder to find mags, terrible accuracy and not even a black rifle till you spend more money on it buying a stock are what I took away from my experience with a mini-14.

I'll go through the videos in a bit but I'm pretty sure I said I was speaking from past experience with the XCR. Although with the newer Keymod version they still don't have the rifle squared away in my opinion and we can expect to see future refinements in subsequent generations. In regards to what failures.... well pretty well everything you can think of with past generations that was known to go down.... did.

For the ACR watch part one at 9:46 for the closeup of the open area in the feedpath that shows the barrel feedramps and extension. Dirt gets in there it can bring any rifle down, and on the ACR they're exposed on a closed bolt. The circumstances that have brought down the rifles repeatably, and at 10:10 of part 1 you can see clearly there's so much open space on a closed bolt that you can drop a loonie straight through.

For those circumstances watch this ACR review starting at 11:20;


To address your critiques, most of your points were mentioned in the other two videos and in the ACR disassembly video so there was little point to repeat that over again in every video. It's a multi part series so some points do get mentioned in other videos and not brought up again to save time. Otherwise in our experience getting factory parts can be hit and miss and sometimes it's faster to import them yourself (through a licensed exporter of course) or surf the EE.

The rifle not striking the POA wasn't the point at all. I was simply pointing out where I was aiming and pointing out the groups.

The range was occupied when we got there and the shooting lanes we got were what we used. We will be getting a crew together and cleaning up the right lanes when we can get some time to do so. Otherwise it is what it is and like every time we make a video we have to roll with the cards we are given and can't always hold out for optimal conditions.

Not enough targets was likely a comment I could have left out because printing multiple groups on one target is acceptable anyway. So it wasn't that we didn't have enough targets so much as a comment that should have not been made or hit the cutting floor.

Otherwise the ACR printed the best group of the day with all of those factors, including using AR 223 ammo (not exactly known for high end accuracy).

Do you have any pictures of the action when this occurs? or any closeup video of this in action?

I would hazard a guess that these reviewers have gotten a little "more" than you did into their actions with out issue:

I am not disputing your claims of the rifle malfunctioning, but there might be more at play here. Your sample in the video got a somewhat light dusting, whereas these examples got caked with mud.

I am curious to see what the insides look like when it stopped.
 
Thanks for doing these videos - they pretty much convince me not to get either one =)
I got rid of my Gen 1 XCR and have been pondering the more recent models, that accuracy was a shocker.

what do you expect when a scope is not zeroed and you are shooting through bushes? lol

please post video of the gun locking up while shooting next to a dirt or sand pile, or even pics of the action locked and what did it because that simply does not happen in my experience.

Torture videos are already posted that discredit the idea that this is a "fair weather only" rifle as you claim it to be. None of the rifles locked up like you have suggested

The second vid was worse than the third. I would completely expect it to run just fine under conditions in the first and third video. I would also like to know the conditions in which the ACR went down for you David / HTS.
 
So one of the hobby rifles got dirt in it and went down? Don't worry, your buddy with the AR will keep those paper targets busy while you clear the stoppage.:nest:
 
yeah, because nobody has ever been to a range and seen guys with AR's jaming up, FTF, FTE, etc

should have said AK but that would require being in a different country

It was meant as piston vs DI humor. Anything will gum up with enough dirt in it;) Guys need to realize that every system will experience a stoppage at some point and just do their IA drill and carry on instead of complaining about that particular tool.

Yes AK's are sweet, too bad they are verboten in Kanada.
