Advanced Reloading: 14.5x114

LOL... two pounds... that ought to be, what, 4-5 cases?

Assuming case capacity is similar than the standard 14.5x114 cases, loads with Vit 20N29 and H50BMG will hover around the 300gr mark, so a pound will do 20~, according to Quickload. Two pounds should do around 40 rounds.

I want to try a couple powders, so getting 8lbs of something that might not be ideal isn't the best idea. 40ish shots is probably enough to figure out if the powder is good enough or if further experimentation is required. 8 groups of 5 rounds should at least tell me something useful. Once I have things a little more dialed in, I'll be ordering a couple 8lbs of what worked best.

In any case, I still laugh my butt off at how much powder this caliber chugs on. It's bloody hilarious.

It'll be a week or so before I cast, I want to clean the barrel properly and my Wipeout is still in the mail.

But here, another picture for the delay.

Update:

20 brass cases to pick up from the post office (thanks Sebarms)
Bore slugged (.5881)
Primers obtained
Powder obtained

I wonder how CanAm is coming up on the 14.5x114 components. Still trying to find what alloy of copper is good to use...

How's the price and quality of the Sebarms brass?

I'll tell you as soon as I pick them up tomorrow, but they were 20 bucks each. I was told they were once fired, so I hope they're in decent shape. I think I bought what they had left, though...

Thanks again to Sebarms for the brass.

So I got 17 brass cases and 3 steel ones. No large dings or cracks, apart from a small notch on the neck of one of the steel cases. I got three steel bullets that I probably won't fire, but I'll be able to use them as a reference when I make my own.

Look's like they need a tumbling in SS media.

I have them in the Lyman Turbo Pro 1200 right now, could only fit 10 when it should hold about 165 cases of 30-06. They seem to be cleaning up nicely though, it'll just take a bit more time.
