Ak-47?

Dont forget that the M43 ball fmj round overpenetrates...bad idea when dealing with potential hostage situation...hit the bad guy and the bullet continues out the body and hits a soccer mom or blue collar daddy.

If I am not mistaken it does the same thing with soft points and hollow points too.

Another point which not a lot of people have hit upon is that one of the other reliability factors in the AK, is because the casings are made from steel rather than brass. Considering how brutal the AK loading mech is to brass casings, they tend to bend at the neck because of this and sometimes jam up.

Leading into the next main point in the steel casing realm is the fact that the major suppliers of such steel casing ammunition for the M43, tend only to make FMJ ball...hollow point and soft point steel casing cartridges are not easy to come by for someone sourcing ammo through the RCMP or other LEO detachments.

:)

most centerfire rifle cartridges "over penetrate" people. It isn't a caliber issue so much as a bullet selection issue. If you are concerned, use the correct bullet.
7.62x39mm ammo is easy to obtain in HP, SP and even frangible flavours. It is however more expensive than most are willing to pay given the cheap surplus offerings available.

hey arent you the kid with all the airsoft? The one without a PAL? Or any actual guns? Why do you feel you are even entitled to an opinion on something that has been banned in Canada before you were born. I dont think keeping an airsoft toy under the bed is the same thing.

^Probably runs LMT...cause its the ####in best!!! KBs recommendations are what made me buy an LMT off Questar... been really happy with it since.

The better question is why would the US use a rifle which was produced by their enemies during the cold war? Even if they didnt use the AR, theres plenty of better choices like HK etc.

M4 = COLT

The term M4 was coined by Colt but most refer to any carbine under 16 with a collapsible stock to be an M4. This case has been tried and lost by Colt. The courts indicated that the term M4 is NOT synonymous with Colt when they tried to sue Bushmaster over the use of the term.

I've used Colt, Diemaco, LMT, KAC.
I even have a BM full auto lower.
My preference for lowers if Colt or Diemaco,
Uppers KAC, Colt, LMT, Diemaco.

I shot a guy 4 times with an AK center of mass -- he did not stop...

I dont view any ammo other than what what finds overseas as a valid comparator.
For me in x39 its M43, in 5.56mm its M855, Mk262 and previous DOS issues Fed GM 69gr BTHP

The AK screams bad guy as well for coalition troops, and as if it did not need anymore strikes against it, using one is a good way to get Blue on Blued.

Kevin +100.. I don't know how many times the ANA or ANP were almost (or were) lit up just by the fact they carried AKs or Vz58s.
I can attest 100% that the AK round loses effectiveness at ranges beyond 100m, the round that hit me was fired from 200-300m away and bounced off my leg,a larger bullet is useless without sufficient propellant to launch it at a decent velocity. I talked to some UN types hit a close ranges in Afghanistan the AK rounds were stopped by Lvl IIIA soft armour, bigger isn't better sometimes.

Those who have a choice carry M4s.

I've carried AKs when other things were not available. I'm comfortable carrying a decent AK and I trust them. Throw an Ultimak and Aimpoint on them, some plastic mags, and they're not half bad.

But they are not my first choice of firearm.

As Kev & Reaper mentioned, the profile of an AK is a big SHOOT ME, especially in low light situations. Getting lit up by the army when I get out to pull security is not my idea of fun.

Right now I'm running a Colt auto lower with a LMT upper. I've got 100% confidence in it.

This is very reasonable. I looked up the ballistics and at 200 yards the 7.62 X 39 is moving at 1400 or so fps. This is similar to a 9 MM out of sub machine gun at muzzle which the 3 A is designed to stop.
