on a serious note, that is seriouly sick, I am lime jelly.

In the late 80's/early nineties I walked into Milarm slapped down my brand new Visa and walked out with an AK47 in .223 with under folding stock. I took it home on the bus. 5 - 30 round magazines. It was awesome. That rifle chewed through ammunition. I shot a couple of thousand rounds through it without a failure of any kind. Beautiful. I sold it when it went restricted.

*sigh* I miss that rifle.

computermike - they are solid rifles - I am currently looking for a piston driven semi automatic rifle that fits the bill - the semi automatic AK`s are OK .. but they have been replaced by other rifles :(

In the meantime the AK variants are limited to 12.5 status

My Dad's friend had one of those Norinco AK's in .223 in the late 80's, they'd go shooting it whenever they could, going halfs on ammo. Apparently it was accurate enough and never had any failures that weren't ammo related. I wasn't even born then.

As far as I know, he sold it when the current bull#### legislation came in in the mid 1990's. It's a shame this generation can't have those toys.

I got the chance to shoot an AK47 out in Kentucky when I was visiting some family, and nothing compares. I've shot larger and smaller rounds, and nothing beats an AK in 7.62x39. I still haven't got to shoot a CZ858, but I'm hoping it will be at least close to the same feeling I had when shooting the AK.

Yes they are 14x1mm LH/thread...from factory. I switched out several of my AK's to the 24x1.5mm style (from some once dropped rifles :D ) The threads are on the actual front sight base, not the barrel...you can get adapters for 14x1mm to 24x1.5mm if you like the more modern compensators.

Gunplumberr - didn't you do a Valmet conversion a while back, using an M78 receiver? I think I might be looking at doing that in the next little while (probably shortly before I get a divorce).

The CZ and AK are pretty similar in feel. I've quite a bit of trigger time behind an AK with friends in the US.

My friend has, among other AK's, a Norinco NHM-91 which is sort of a sporterized (although he replaced the sporter furniture) RPK with a 20 inch barrel. This has quite a similar feel to our non-restricted 858's, although IMO the 858 is a more comfortable rifle. I don't think you'd regret an 858, I didn't.
