Alberta ban on spear hunting after American hunter kills black bear

i may not want to spear a bear or even agree with it... but I would still rather be a bear that may have the chance to be speared then a cow or a pig or a chicken...lol just saying we do far worse to those animals
again i may not agree with spearing a bear ... but its fine to spear salmon?? oh i forgot animals are cuter than fish

I haven't shot a bear yet, but didn't the spear hit a bit far back? I wouldn't try to put a bullet right there.

Otherwise, if you're brave enough to use a spear type weapon to fill your tag, fill your boots!
at some angles you do put your arrow or bullet a littel farther back to get the arrow to pass threw the vitals moat times you aim for the off side shoulder .hold a broom stick in front of your chest put it at your last rib and point it towards the shoulder on the other side you will see that it will pass threw the pump house.

This would be funny if it wasn't true. Shows the level of ignorance that is out there.

To put things in perspective, this is a sampling of the "general public" ( and you call us knuckle draggers!)

***WARNING*** very annoying music

There are a lot of different YouTube clips on this, I just picked the most recent one.

This is the reason why we can't/shouldn't use sensationalist reporting and emotional rhetoric as the basis for formulating our laws.

Bear baiting is legal in NB. I think it's a great tool to use so that overzealous hunters aren't shooting a sow with cubs. You have a chance to observe the bears before the shot. We are also overpopulated with bears in NB.

I just fired off a email to the AB fish and game association. Fish & Game associations should not be helping the antis with their agenda.

You Alberta folks should be contacting the executive BOD of the AFGA to oppose this.
I just got off the phone with a member of the executive board and he asked me if I had seen the video, he thought the reaction of the hunter upon success was horrible. I suppose that it now appears any sort of celebration is now taboo unless it fits into some one else's preconceived definition of what is acceptable?
The official response from him was typical "we support all lawful methods of harvest"

You folks need to get your ducks in a row, as someone has already stated "it will be bowhunters next"

If you have family or friends in Alberta, they should be made aware of this.

Hunting is hunting with whatever legal weapon, so he did nothing wrong. However, I'm old so I absolutely don't get the fascination with posting everything you do online so everyone can see. The reality that we as firearms owners, or spear, or bow hunters can't seem to accept, is that the majority of people who see an animal killed, will be horrified. I realize you have a right to post videos, but the more it is done, the more we will lose sympathy with the public and therefore with politicians. Politicians are only interested in votes, and there aren't enough of us, so we lose.
