Can't help but wonder how the rest of us would feel if you didn't have to ask permission to hunt any land over say 25 acres on a far use idea. Then given a small amount of money for the use of the land after all most land isn't doing much during the winter.

Guess you could ask the band council for permission to hunt the land. Or see about 99 year leases.

I will admit I'm not crazy about the idea of a large chunk of land that was free for all to access now being used by a small number of people. Course there are a lot of douche out there that tell people this is my land to hunt even though it's crown land. Just because you have hunted it for 3 generations in your family don't mean you own it the land is crown land and the gov. gets to decide who gets it use it.

I fear for what the land will become more than anything. This land is being given to a very small number of people say a thousand or so. Coupled with that they are getting 300 000 000 dollars and the rights to do what they please. Included in the aip is the right to hunt and fish any time of year day or night and by any means. They will legally be able to fish for walleye in the Rideau river with dynamite and a helicopter if they so please. Also included is the right to sell trade or barter any of the wildlife they kill. The townships around Algonquin bark have a draw only system for moose hunters and calf tags aren't valid because of lack of moose. It takes at least twenty guys to get a validation tag to hunt unit 48 for moose. I spoke to a native who hunts unit 48 they only need two native I'd cards for a calf and four for an adult. Between 18 of them they had 6 tags. After this passes what effect will unregulated market hunting and fishing have on the wildlife of the Ottawa valley? It's easy to be naive and think these natives live in some harmonious world where they are at one with nature but that isn't the case. The people involved in this settlement are just like you or I. They're taking advantage of a flawed system. Not one of us wouldn't jump at 300 million bucks and exclusive rights to a hunting and fishing paradise full of waterfront and most of it already managed by lumber companies who are paying the crown good money but will soon have to pay these algonquins.

The more the government gives the more they want, its an endless cycle in this country. Its time for the government IMO to put their foot down and create fairness and equality for everyone instead of bending over to please special interest groups.

It's way overdue, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. I doubt that I will ever seen a Canada where every citizen is considered equal under the law.

Before ya get your panties in a bunch reread my post. I too am employed by a federal agency (Canadian Army) pay my taxes and recieve absolutely no government handouts or assistance.

The OP talked about being screwed out of "his" hunting land. It was never his or his hunting buddies land. Just like others have posted that it was not my peoples land it was not theirs. Now that the shoe is on the other foot and prime hunting areas are being "redistributed" people are all upset. hmm.. sounds familiar, like when the white man "redistributed" prime hunting grounds of my ancestors.

Wait a minute here, correct me if I am wrong, but cant natives and non natives hunt crown land? Anyone...anyone....thats the deal isnt it?

So now you want to get portions of the "CROWN LAND" that as of right now, both YOU and I could hunt on together, side by side and remove me from that section because you feel it belongs to YOUR people but not CANADIAN people? Is this so your people have more places they can shoot from the road, shoot game that is on the road, or just because you feel "I" stole something from you when clearly that is not the case, nor did my dad or his dad or his dad before him. IN FACT I'm starting to feel like I'm the one getting stolen from..... just sayin...

When this passes it opens up the flood gates and won’t be long till all the native tribes are demanding all the crown land back. This country is a joke..
I make a living taking American hunting in WMU 55A and 57 and will get screwed. I can see the hunting and fishing rights being leased off to big American outfitting companies..

My Italian grandparents came to this country with nothing, never got a hand out, worked there asses off and had pride in what they did. It’s unbelievable after so long these people are still stuck in the past and want everything handed to them on a golden platter and even then it’s not good enough.

We have to start standing up for our rights, push our weight around just like they do and put pressure on our government like they do. There are more "white man" in this country then natives but then again were all too busy working to pay bills and can’t afford to all take time off and protest for weeks and weeks without a worry in the world since you know that government check will be arriving any day ..

That's scary......lots of people I talk to say..." If you can't use it BURN IT..!!!!"

If it catches fire, the firefighters should refuse to enter the land to put it out. If we aren't allowed to use the land, why should our firefighters risk their lives, as well as spend our tax dollars to provide services for that land? Everyone else pays property taxes to be supplied with services on their private property, but I don't see that being the case in this situation.

Holy Fack... does this mean Algonquin park is private property? Does this mean all the crown land my Grandperents, Parents and my children enjoy the same way any Canadian can enjoy, is off limits?

Because it is my fault your ancestors traded all their land for shiny beads lol

Algonquin Park will stay the same as will other provincial parks.

The crown land that they've claimed (117,500 acres) will be transferred to them as private property.

Correct me if I am wrong, but, are the Provinces within their jurisdiction to negotiate and settle deal with the First Nations? I thought, as pointed out in a previous post, that the First Nations People were wards of the Federal Government and therefore the soul agency responsible and able to negotiate and settle deals of this kind.

55A and 55B are absolutely gutted. The most productive hunting grounds and wild life refuge are marked to be transferred. Even in 58 and 57 were there is less land to be transferred (less crown land in 57 and 58 to start with), whatever being transferred is smack in the middle of some of the best known winter deer and moose yards. With extended hunt session for the Algonquin and generous quota, I fear for the population of deer and moose in those areas.

I make no representation as to the right or wrong of this deal because i am not informed enough. But even if the Government felt obliged to compensate them, it should have reached into its pocket and paid them in cash. But than they would have to explain it to the tax payers. Instead, these coward politicians paid the Algonquin with public's land, which is easier to hide in short term.

Here's a question for you or anyone else for that matter, native or non native, just how long should I be paying for this when I was never even born when the wrong doing was done? When will enough be enough? My tax dollars could go to better health care, better support for those out of work due to manufacturing moving south or over seas, sooo many things MY tax dollars could go towards, and now not only are my tax dollars being gobbled up on MANY frivolous things (on top of any native things), but now I'll be told I cant enjoy some of nature that has always been my right to enjoy?

How about the fact if you look at the treaties we promised them 110% of Ontario don't think we were dealing fairly.

Not to mention I may be living on land that was given to the natives as a reward for helping in the war of 1812. Interesting enough when the land was given to them by the rules laid out by our government at the time they where not allowed to sell it. Yet according to many of the people around here they did sell it. The natives say their people leased the land to the settlers. Since according to the law thew natives could only sell the land given to them in the treaties back to the federal government. Sounds to me like there maybe an issue there.

I don't really blame the natives for using the law to their advantage just as we did to screw them had we dealt fairly in the first place then maybe our own laws and words wouldn't be biting us in the ass. What our people promised in the past is what we have to follow through with. Laws flow both ways not only telling you what you get but what you need to do. I have house the bank loaned me the money if I don't pay them back I'm out on my ass it's not my house till I follow through with what I agreed to do for it. Last year my wife and I both lost our jobs house still had to be paid as did the car. Both legal and moral I was responsible for those debts just as I am responsible for the promises made to buy this land. It's not the natives fault our people made promises they had no intent on keeping.

This is never going to end or ever be enough no matter what they get till they have it all. But won't ever be enough and will go after other things.
Could you imagine they do get all this land, end up selling it off back to the white man and in a hundred years are at this point again trying to get it all back for free. Wouldn't surpise me. This is the world we live in.

That's exactly what's going to happen. Waterfront = big bucks real estate wise !!!!!

If the Natives want to get compensation, it should only go to those with 100% Native blood. If at some point your bloodline got a little white (or any other ethnicity other than 100% pure Native), then cut off.
But how's that fair... those that are now 1/8000th, or 1/2 Native didn't have any control of what ethnicity their parents were. Well welcome to the world the rest of Canada lives, not 1 single person paying off the :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: had anything to do with what happened in the past, yet here we are... still paying it.
