all I want for X-mas is a SKS

He's probably talking about abbotsford cabelas? Unless there's an inside joke I'm missing.
Sorry, I am dragging us away fron SKS land into Transelwania:

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Ah! Very good. Would you mind telling me whose brain I DID put in?
Igor: Then you won't be angry?
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: I will NOT be angry.
Igor: Abby someone.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: [pause, then] Abby someone. Abby who?
Igor: Abby... Normal.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programme...

had shot 2 crates out of it and the accuracy basically just disappeared. It also started falling apart.

At first I could hit pop cans most of the time at 100m. A year later I would be lucky to hit a fire extinguisher. The rear sight would shift a bit. The screw holding the bayonet on kept falling out. Guess where a spring loaded sks bayonet goes when the screw comes out. I will give you a hint I still have a scar from it.

I sold it and bought a marlin 795. no regrets. It was a lot of fun while I had though.

Wtf happened to yours? That's a damn horror story.

I can tell you that's not the norm, at all! You must have gotten some real lemon, or ya know, you forgot to clean it after shooting corrosive Ammo and of course after every outing your bore is getting more and more corroded.

After wife's approval I got my '51 refurb SKS from crappy tire for a bit more than I wanted to pay but it's worth it.
Now I'm on the hunt for ammo and not sure if I should buy russian corrosive or some NA brand.
I won't be able to shoot FMJ at my range so probably I need to find some abandoned sand pit. where do you guys shoot your FMJ?

A reliable semi auto that shoots readily available and (relatively) cheap ammo for $200? Get a couple :)

they aren't 200 anymore, at least not in regina. Some private sales can get you one but nothing like that at any retailer. Ammo is getting more expensive too.

Sourced one from for a new PAL holding buddy for $200 taxes in recently, not a private sale either. Can't speak for Regina.

Ammo regardless of caliber is in a constant state of increasing in price. Surplus 7.62x39 is still (like I said, relatively) cheap in comparison to other calibers.

This ####, LGS selling 280... Some nice online for 600!

I'm hitting local CT asap picking up one for 210. Not guna clean it, just hang onto it for a few years...
