All-New: Type 81M

Did you just send it back for replacement or did you talk to someone and they said they would warranty it?

TI accused me of rubbing rust remover and acetone on the rifle. So I just sent it back to them. They can decide what to do. More then likely will charge the 23% and keep the rifle. It's pure profit for them.

Finally made it home… the fixed stock version was waiting for me… the rifle is straight as an arrow… stock is bent to the right… LOP way too short for me anyways so AR stock adaptor on its way and it will be replaced right away.. otherwise she is purdy;)

Ahh, I see. I apologize, my impatience is showing. I’m gonna check out that app so I can watch my order sit in “shipping label created” limbo for the next 7 days and really get my blood pressure up. Thanks!

I installed the app thinking "Hey, maybe my shipping label is created!!!"

Yea... naw. #288XX gang continues waiting in processing purgatory.

Are you planning on doing a chargeback on your card if that's the position they take? I'd be curious for an update to your story when there is one. My first dealing with TI, and I'm thinking this will be the last one.

It's really hard to say how common "bent" ones are based on the complaining of the CGN community. Unfortunately the ones that are really out of "spec" do tend to get everyone riled up and looking real close at theirs.
I've owned a bunch of type 81's over the years. Fixed and folders from the SA and SE as well as the lmg. Maybe some of them were bent, but it's never been obvious enough to me that I had to break out the tools to measure and I just don't feel like stressing out about it. I've been quite happy with every one I've owned and any that are less straight just don't get an optic on the receiver.

I believe them all to be "bent". The question being just how "bent" is the particular one you get? More than a 2mm bend, or less than a 2mm bend. I wonder, how many here would put out $1500.00 + for a Winchester model 1895 is say 30-30, and they'd be accepting that the barrel is seated in the receiver 2mm off of straight (that's if Winchester is even capable of making such an obvious qc error)?

I just checked too, nothing. 286xx, March 15th and still waiting. Coming up on a month. What a sh!t show. Hype is completely worn off.
Never dealt with TI before, likely never will again. I understand the large volume of orders but the process seems completely unorganized with others jumping the queue, rifles and accessories on opposite sides of the country apparently. Not to mention not disclosing, then downplaying the bent rifle issues, the “within tolerance” nonsense and the 23% restocking fee if you don’t want bent sh!t, which in my mind isn’t much different than theft at this point.
All I can do is hope I end up with a straight rifle when I really just want my money back but don’t feel like taking a $300+ restocking kick in the b@lls and end up with nothing.

This sounds an awful lot like apples to oranges but if I made it more relatable to myself, would I spend $1500 on a Henry and accept defects or shoddy workmanship? No I wouldn’t. For argument sake, people buy Rossi 92s at comparable dollars, take them down, stone the actions and lap internal parts along with adding spring kits just to make them cycle like they aren’t full of broken marbles and sand.

I also remember people buying Remington Era Marlins, even when the word was out. People still buy KD products, BCL products, people still buy from TNA. If TI was leaving people high and dry for things that were unserviceable I would understand the outrage but ultimately if so many people are so displeased, stop buying them, make a statement?

Better yet come together and come up with a better product. The world needs more innovators and less whiners.

Winchester doesn't make an 1895 in 30-30. If they did then its extremely rare and defeats the purpose of the 1895 design. You're property thinking 1894 which is available in 30-30.

For that logic to apply they needed to disclose that it is possible that the barrel may be misaligned up to 4mm off center prior to being warrantied. Or that stocks may be misaligned by X prior to being warrantied. Except they know that if they said that up front their sales would crater and they would be stuck with a bunch of inventory. I can tell you for a fact that if I read that my rifle may be up to 4mm misaligned I would not have placed the order no matter how cool I think the UF looks. I also would not have hyped up all my friends about how cool these look. I'd just pay the same or a bit more on GP for one I can verify myself. I am sure there are people who would be happy to roll the dice, but there are also people who don't want to risk 1500 on what may be hot garbage.

Charging unhappy customers 20% restocking fee when you didn't disclose relevant information so that they could make an informed decision is both deceptive and unethical business practices. If you are happy to roll the dice and be misled all the power to you, but not everyone is happy to play the lottery without knowing ahead of time what the terms actually are.

Type 81 enthusiasts (people who buy one again after seeing what the first one looked like) hold the gun to a different standard. We expect mass produced PLA "gotta armed millions of soldiers" stamped reciever quality and are willing to pay 1000-1500cad to obtain that novelty. No different then SVDs fetching 5-20grand in the states yet in reality there probably a sub 1000 dollar gun to produce.

Same could be said for plenty of other novel guns, how much would Canadians be willing to pay tomorrow for an UZI, Sten, PPSH or other slapped together mass produced guns?
