All-New: Type 81M

Based on all of the enthusiasm expressed for the underfolder T81, I can only surmise that those demanding that style of Buttstock have never fired a rifle equippped with one. The Underfolder AK (now T81) Buttstock is the least ergonomic, most uncomfortable and unnaturally-fitting stock that I can think of. It truly is that bad. I understand desire for that which one does not have, but in this case you guys lusting after the underfolder are horribly misguided. Whoever told you guys that putting an underfolder on a T81 was a good idea was an abject liar! Poly Tech must have had a bunch of spare stocks sitting around in need of a host....

Sorry to burst your bubbles fellas, but those underfolders are a dog's breakfast as far as ergos are concerned. Stand-by for bruised cheekbones. Ask me how I know....

Osborne tells me , you know your stuff, so im convinced, wont keep my underfolder after getting it and trying it

Are you made of butter? Soft and squishy?

By all means give it a chance, but if your facial structure is like mine you will soon ditch it. That, plus the inability to add a side-mount optics rail really limit the Underfolder design. I honestly didn't come here just to rain on everybody's parade - I'm just late to the party on this particular thread otherwise I'd have tried to warn folks earlier on.

The Side-folders are a HUGE improvement over the Underfolders both in terms of ergos and durability. The Underfolding stocks will soon loosen with a more pronouced "wobble" the more you shoot them, as the downwards angle of the stock results in the Locking Pins battering the Rotation Stops in the Receiver and Stock Assembly. Your stock will slightly rotate in the locked position when new. This will worsen over time as the round-count climbs. The only "fix" of sorts is to completely disassemble the Buttstock Assembly and peen the Rotation Stops to tighten up the fit of the Locking Pins. Unfortunately, the Underfolder "fix" doesn't last very long.

Sorry guys, but I predict a comparatively large number of previously-owned Underfolders will be available on the EE and GP in fairly short order. If you missed out on the initial sale, just wait for dissatisfied owners to sell their lightly-used wares. Of course, that will leave you with an Underfolder and the same set of issues....

No doubt, the only positive with the Type81M underfolders is the angle of the deployed stock is greater which will reduce the need to mash down on the metal with a persons face.

If you check out the "folder or fixed" thread you will see that your not the first to issue a warning..... :)

I can see someone making an adapter like Tariaq suggested in the other thread to allow a guy with a smashed face to install a fixed or side folding stock.... :)

An MP38/40 underfolder in the safe would not bother me that much though.

Ah, seen. I am glad that somebody was on the ball with an early warning. In all honesty, although the Underfolder is an ergonomic nightmare it will probably suffice for the casual "fun-shooter/plinker" who only fires the rifle a handful of times per year. For the more frequent shooter, YMMV in direct correlation to the number and frequency of rounds fired.

Unfortunately, the more acute ange of the T81M's deployed Buttstock is going to result in even greater battering of the Buttstock's Locking Pins against the holes in the Receiver and the Stock's locking assembly. When it comes to wear and tear, the straighter the Buttstock the better....

I have shot underfolders and wire stocks. I think your assessment is coming from mostly a black gun/military guy. The underfolder is not exactly for bench rest shooting and trying to hit MOA.

I am not sure if you have shot the side folder (the most popular type 81) but it is not better, even worse since the LOP only works if you have very short arms.

As to bruised cheek bones, yes of course if you are leaning your face against metal, what do you expect? It can easily be padded. There are various solutions to this.

Yup, but unless the adapter extends forwards to cover the sides of Underfolder Reciever, there are going to be some very LARGE holes left in the sides of your rifle!

No doubt, but the whole concept is a trade off from the get go.... take your pick... loose stock or sore face..... :)

A red dot on a riser rail would also allow for more of a face off the stock shooting position.... sort of like what you get with a sub2000 or a BRS-99 with the straight wire stock.

I must be odd because I enjoy shooting the underfolder AKs

I believe the 'cool factor' is playing a big part in this one... not that there's anything wrong with that.

Pretty much why I picked up the SR, closest I'll ever get to a Dragonov.

Heard paracord on the arm might help cheek-weld... a bit... if ya want to call it that.

The risk is the same. most likely TI put an order in for 1000 units perhaps around $500 a piece. you don't know the details of the contract. and don't worry these will be the last to be band Turdo and China are good friends china will not let Turdo cancel contracts.
the same way yo are willing to pay what you paid perhaps there are others that money means nothing and are willing to pay the asking price not your business or mine. i give props to tis guy he is a smart business man. Maybe he does this for a living instead of working in the factory. He risked $30k or whatever, his profit is his, not my business. i do the same i have rental units. i buy the buildings i reno and charge more rent i guess I'm bad too eh?

I'd go out on a limb and say the value of housing is higher than the value of adding to cart. I'd also wager that you exert substantially more effort and take on more risk through your renovations than he does when he buys.

Sure, props to him for finding a way to make money. People aren't necessarily mad that he is making money, they are upset that 1) his actions are preventing others from purchasing a product at a fair price and 2) the 1300 dollar markup is not representative of the value of adding an item to your cart
